Just read in one of the freebies that its being relocated :mmm:

What's the story here , do I need to get a game there soon before it go's.

Absolutely true, MashleyR7 and I are members.

Long story made as short as possible. We are a decent, tough, 100+ year old course that has lost space due to the M20 motorway and the high speed trains. We are right alongside the motorway and the council want us to relocate so that the course can be redeveloped for housing and industry

We looked at doing it about 10 years ago and the members ( we are a private club) agreed the move, which would give us a top quality course, clubhouse and practice facilities and money in the bank. We abandoned the plan at the time but it's since been revived and the committee were given the ok to come up with a site and a plan and when they are ready a formal vote will take place. The feeling is that it will take between 5 to 10 years to the final solution.

I am in favour but feel sad that I may never get to play on the course given my age, but I do feel passionate that we are only custodians of our membership whilst we are there, and our duty is to look after future generations of members, young and old, as and when the need arises.

By all means come and have a game down there I'd be pleased to host you!

The move this time is forced by the council who own part of 'our' land and have said they will not renew the lease when it ends in 40 odd years time. I'm sad that the course will be gone but I'm also excited for a new course and better facilities that I'll get to play on for many more years hopefully.

Well, if it helps we were forced to move from our home in the middle of Ascot racecourse to facilitate the new stand being built. We thought it would be a detrimental move but we've a better more challenging course and modern clubhouse. Slightly different in that the Ascot Authority paid for the course as part of the deal to vacate the race course but we had to stump up for the clubhouse.

Providing you get a good price and there's a watertight deal in place to actually build a new course and facilities then it may just be the start of a new chapter for the club. It could be a golden opportunity but I do think there will be a lot of angst between now and holing out on the first green of the new course

I do worry about the time when they won't want to spend on the old course as it might be seen as a waste. The land isn't as valuable as it once was but it was valued at £90m + before! shame is that the Council want about 35% in planning gain!

Are there any other hidden gems down this way ?

Canterbury! Sorry!

Royal Cinque Ports

Royal St Georges

Littlestone

Sene Valley (bit hilly but good course with lovely views)

Hardly "hidden" but good courses. Also the deal between Ashford, Canterbury, Sene Vally, Tenterden, Bearsted, Walmer & Kingsdown and Wrotham Heath for between £15-18 weekdays is worth using
