I've had and loved real trees for as long as I can remember. However, for various reasons I need to get an artificial tree this year and am seeking advice.

I've heard technology is good these days and you can get a tree that looks uber real, any recommendations?

please dont post saying you cant beat a real tree and smells etc etc- I get it

We have had to have artificial since the wee man was born due to allergens.
Got one from Dobbies that looks as much like a real Douglas Fir as you can get without being real IMO. We went for the pre-lit option to save a bit of time as well.
This will be it's fourth outing and still looks spot on. Cost £200 so at a rate of £50 we paid each year for a real one it has now paid for itself and will now start to provide RoI :D

PS: you can't beat the look and smell of a real tree :ears:

lol, git!

That's my take on it as well Greig, costly but will pay for itself after 4 years as a real one costs about £60 delivered now, plus last years had fox pee on it and they had to replace it next day- took days to shift the smell.

Worth getting a good artificial tree, as ours has lasted at least 15 years. It even drops a few needles as well.;) Once it is decorated you can hardly tell the difference. No idea of the make though, as the box didn't last nearly as long as the tree.

Its not just the fox pee you need to watch they are prone to fungus as they die, this was what we found out when the wee man started getting a rash and cough a few days after we got the last real one.
If you have a decent garden centre near you then they should have decent artificials, if not Dobbies will have to do :D.

I bought mine when I got my first house, 1988, comes out most years and still going strong, if a little bearer than it once was.

you load stuff on it or you mean its barer

/sorry, couldn't resist

We bought an expensive one in the January sales about 10 years ago.
Still looks great.
Don't buy cheap, cost you more in the end.

Gave up with the real ones when my best pair of trousers got ruined with the resin from the cut bark.
I cant believe the price people pay for real ones, we have mega millions growing wild a mile up the road.

We just bought an artificial one today. We got rid of the other one last year when we were chucking stuff out prior to moving and so it's time for brand new decorations. The other one lasted well over 15 years and was still going strong. To be honest with just the two of us, it's more HID that wants it up and decorates it. I've turned into the archetypal grumpy old man and find the whole Christmas thing a bit of a chore these days. They even insist on shutting the clubhouse and course on December 25th
