I watched the opening drive for the start of the Masters, and was quite shocked to see how old Arnie looked. It's probably last year's par 3 comp when I last saw him. Have I missed something, is he ill?

It was very sad to see how he'd really declined...he is 86 and mid eighties seems such a "vulnerable" age :-(

He did look very frail - he is my fav of the three by a long way.

He took more of a back seat at his tournament earlier too. Time has caught up with him rapidly in the last year. The legend won't be with us for much longer I think.

Made my eyes well up. My dad's golfing hero.

You weren't the only one.

My first golfing hero and inspiration and it makes me very sad to think he may not be with us much longer.

Hitch up the pants, toss the cigarette on the ground and give the ball an almighty smack, followed by that unique "lassoo" follow through.

What I would give to see that just one more time.

Very sad, he's the honorary member of our club following Bobby Jones and it's sad to think who might follow Arnie's name on the board.

Have a picture of Arnie and me as my phone screensaver and unfortunately in the two and a bit years since it was taken he seems to have gone downhill quite a bit. Having said that, he (and most others) would probably say the same about me.

By eck lad you've aged!

I was shocked to see how he looked, last time i saw him on the box i would have given him 10 years or more to live, i do not want to post what i thought when i saw him.

He does seem to have aged a lot since last year. Seemed to have some problem with his right arm today too. Poor man being paraded to the world when clearly so frail. Sad to see the twilight of a legend.

I don't think you could have kept him away from the first tee this morning

Add me to the list that was shocked & saddened when they showed the drive in, I also thought Jack & Gary looked very emotional, like they knew something we didn't.

Very sad, but it will happen to all of us.

Just watched it online. :(

So sad. Last time I saw him he was speaking to Kirsty Gallacher a few years back in the Par 3 tournament and looking invincible.

Old age and infirmity are so cruel and take no prisoners.
