Hi folks I posted last yeah about a possible move to the Dundee area due to Michelin Ballymena closing.
Anyway, I'm looking at house prices and they are shocking compared to here haha, we have a 4 bed chalet bungalow here worth about 150k. We need 4 beds and would like a small town village not to far from Dundee, but looking around 200k for a decent area with decent schools. Is that possible?
Thanks

Why Dundee?

Yeah mate it is look at TSPC website that will give you most of the houses in the area that are for sale, if moving to Michelin in Dundee its on the east side of the city.

Thanks Steve, I don't mind a bit of travel, but hopefully not too much. Totally spoilt here as live ten mins away from work and pass the golf club to and from work haha
Has to be Dundee or Stoke for us as that's where we would relocate too.

To be honest mate you won't have to travel to far around Dundee to find someplace to stay thats decent and plenty courses round about at a decent price. Stoke no links courses there mate . If you need anymore info just give me a shout .

Haha, don't fancy Stoke, me mam lives in Newcastle so figure Dundee to Newcastle is better than the M6!
Thanks Steve, will do. Have until March to decide I think so we are just looking to see if it's an option. Going to be a big change in outgoing to move too so have to see if michelin package is right too.

Haha yeah not the most helpful post, I was over in March doing my miniMOST and thought it seemed like a decent enough place. Friendly folk, just finding the right schools and housing.

Stoke to the Toon is as easy via the A1/M1 as M6. I do knutsford to Morpeth and whilst stoke is further down you do have options. There are some lovely areas in Staffordshire around Stoke but I don't know about house prices. Stokie obviously knows his stuff about the area but I think he is in Florida right now.

I've never been to Dundee so I can't comment there. I suspect the distance is probably not that different between the two.

Dundee every time.. com to Stoke.... esp if you are a Golfer

10 mins from St Andrews... Carnoustie, Monifieth, Panmure... to name just a few, don't listen to any of the numpties that know FA.

PS Steve will set you right.

Thanks Patrick, Stoke isn't really an option for me if I can help it.
My main concerns are cost of living etc in Dundee, good schools and social things for the family.

As well as the TSPC website mentioned above, keep an eye on http://www.fifespc.co.uk

Dundee and the surrounding area is a great place to live. It's not a big sprawling city so bear in mind the commute is much easier than in most English cities.

Agreed, even though you might need a rocketship to get to St Andrews from Dundee in 10 minutes

Don't make the mistake of joining Ballumbie Castle (rubbish). Can confirm Monifieth and Downfield are very good and have played in the area a fair bit with university

A mate of mine who works in Dundee lives in Forfar and although I have not visited much it seemed very pleasant when I did

funny, we were looking at Perth too, thanks

I live in Monifieth (ten minutes from Michelin) and work in Perth - it takes an hour in the morning to get to work and from the looks of the queue on the A90 approaching Dundee each morning I'd say it takes as long in the other direction - There also isn't (to my mind) a good golf course in Perth (Blairgowrie Rosemount a bit North is a lovely course though).

Monifieth is a nice area and there are some nice little villages around that part of Angus too - and if you join a golf club in Angus you can get on Carnoustie Championship for half price
