While mooching through twitter this morning, I came across a video with a simple technique on how to determine if your irons are fit correctly.

I must remember to take a sharpie or similar to the range next time I go.

Very old school, like using impact tape that is readily available to buy off the internet. Well worth trying if you have off the shelf clubs, just to see if they are correct for you.

You never know, the reason you keep missing greens to the right might be because the toe is digging in opening the face up, basically the lie angle too flat, it might not be your swings fault......

They are close enough for my needs, being mr average in height and build.

When I get stuck on a single figure I will blame the clubs and get fitted.

The toe doesn't need to dig in. If the club is too flat for you the face will be slightly open even when hit off a tee with no ground impact due to the physics of loft and lie. Same idea, opposite effect for too upright. No heel digging needed.

Imagine you are standing with a 7 iron with a perfect lie (neither flat nor upright). You now have 30 degrees of lift and 0 degrees of open or closed face. Now lower the club handle towards the ground hdingthe face in the same alignment. Now you have 30 degrees of face closure. This is what happens with any club that is too flat or upright and on sloping lies.

Used this numerous occasions to keep checking as I use blades. It's a great aid to see how and where your striking the ball.

I use impact tape regularly to get some feedback on my ball striking. Having been fitted for my I25's it's good to know they still seem to be correctly set up and any mistakes are purely my own incompetence

There are 2 floors to this, the first one is he said use a "clean club", I've played with many off here and not only are your shoes a disgrace, but your clubs are also :smirk:

Secondly, with the time some people take to set-up, practice swing/s and do your pre-shot routine, the ink will be that dry it won't leave a mark :smirk:

And if you live in a bungalow?
