Are you impressed with someone you play with.
Not necessarily a really low handicapper that good at everything, but maybe a higher
handicapper that is poor at a few things but very good at 1 or 2.
I play with a guy who has been hovering around 8 or 9 for a few years.
He is relatively short off the tee but always on or near the short stuff, his chipping
and irons are poor in comparison but his putting is unbelievable.
His long distance putting for pace is superb and his putting from 10ft in is incredible
for his handicap.
Do you know or play with someone that excels in a certain area where you are so impressed?.

My regular PP plays off 5 and its his consistency that I find really impressive. He doesn't hit the ball a country mile but he rarely misses a fairway or a green. His bunker play is superb and he gets up and down from greenside bunkers 7 or 8 times out of 10. His mid/low iron play is equally impressive and again he rarely misses a green from 150 yards inwards. He's well into his 60's and he's never had a handicap higher than 8 but never been lower than 4. He was the Golfer of the Year a couple of years ago and at that time he hardly ever missed a putt of 12' or less. If he has one weakness it is that he occasionally gets a little bit "jabby" when chipping around the green, this is a recent development and maybe a sign of age creeping up on him.

CVG is excellent from 40-80 yards out
9 times out of 10 he'll knock it to within 3 or 4 feet.
He then often takes 2 putts which is why he plays off 13
If I could pitch like that I'd be a couple or more of shots lower for sure.

Liverbirdie - his all round consistency is very impressive but his short game is excellent. Playing with him recently was an eye opener for a couple of things I need to improve.

Qwerty and Birchys putting is also very good. Every putt they hit looks like it's got a chance rather than being terrified like me!!!

Generally try and learn something from most people I play with if possible.

You will never be able to rebound off trees like that Iain :D

One of my regular playing partners hits a beautiful long iron from the tee, low penetrating ball flight with a tiny hint of draw, almost never misses a fairway and knocks it a good 230-240.

His green side chipping is also a sight to behold, crisp striking, normally checks on second bounce and stops within 3 feet more often than not.

I am always impressed with the way you push your trolley Tony.

PNWokingham impresses me with how he can extract himself from the deepest jungle, and still get a par.
Drive4Show impresses me with how he keeps his temper after another duffed chip from round then green.
Smiffy with how he can roll a fag whilst driving a buggy.
Swinger how he can play so well after a skinfull of beer, and a night sleeping in his car.
Therod with his old man chip and runs from 100 yards plus, and be out driven by an OAP.

:D:D

one of my mates.

he has the worst long game of anyone i know, a terrible low slice (he is left handed) but his short game is out of this world.

if you were playing him in match play you would think you had a chance of winning every hole after you watched his tee shot.

I was impressed once when Rich out drove everyone - dodgy bounce I reckon :D

When I play pro Am's the Pro we play with is always impressive in regards his short game

Back when I began playing I got lucky enough to be paired up with a guy called Alan Kerkhoff. Sadly I have lost touch with him but if there were a 120yd and in tour he would be a Major winner. That guy would get up and down ALL DAY from anywhere. He used a Brass Bullseye putter and would hole out right handed, left handed, back handed, between his legs even! Oh and another guy who absolutely will not be beaten no matter how bad he is playing, Paddy Flavin is like the little kid you fought at school who you knew you had to kill before he stopped getting up! He never ever lets up.

Yup...a couple of guys I play with regularly.

Both play off 4, however, one isn't long at all, but the consistency with which he plays golf is ridiculous. He is one of the best putters I have ever witnessed in the flesh (excluding pros) and he just hits fairway after fairway after fairway.

The second is naughty long when he gets it going, and it's a beautiful thing to watch in full flow, but what impresses me most is, when in the clag, he manages to see and pull off shots that just can't be seen by anyone else.

Sometimes I can get my three wood out there.

Drive4Show is probably the best driver of a golf ball I have played with. Decent distance and incredibly straight. He can actually pick which side of the fairway he wants to finish on, and do it consistantly Not many golfers you can play a scramble with, when you have to use three drives each, and leave them to drive the last three holes. Not me for sure.

Liverbirdie- Mr Consistency. Rarely misses a fairway and always shoots below or around H'cap. I don't know what his comp stats are but Id bet 0.1s are rare. Always cool, calm and collected and always competitive.

I know Lincoln Quaker is also an admirer of Liverbirdies golfing talent, I'm sure he'll be along to sing his praises soon  :D

I was all set to be impressed once, the 9th at Blackmoor. I had just finished one of the holes at that crossover point where I prepared to watch an experienced golfer hit a 9 iron down a simple par 3...

I'm impressed at how far Birchy can helicopter a wedge out of a bunker :D:D

Also impressed at how far away you can hear StuC yell "Chadeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" :D:D

Played with a guy called Geoff the other Sunday. I was mesmerised all the way round at how effortless he hit the ball miles and straight down the middle. He kept well away from danger and just hit middle of the green everytime. Nobody was noticing how good he was doing as it was almost boring watching him play as you knew exactly were the ball was going. Learnt a lot from him that day. He was off a 12 handicap but plays like a 2-3 handicapper. Oh and the majority of old boys who can't hit it far but are straight as an arrow, make it look simple. Learnt loads from the old boys too. I live in hope someone says they are impressed by me.................... Oh and homer too for me is mr consistent driver I think (he won't) and his putting is solid too made me realise I'm pants.
