Are we constantly mislead by the manufactures

So with the nice weather coming I constantly find myself looking at the new generation of golf shoes for comfort level, but it seems for years manufactures have banged on bout support and stability only to back out and go down the canvas trainer with an astro based sole.

A prime example is Nike. The new lunar a that Rory and the other staffers are wearing are similar to the xps with the wider sole featuring an outrigger design sole to maximise foot print size and stability yet on the flip side they also market what is basically a canvas boat shoe with an astro turf sole.

So, is this their way of admitting that for years the stability think is not more than a sales line similar to the longer straighter sales pitch we see on clubs... Or is the show we wear solely down to preference and style and nothing else.

Discuss.

Personally I want a shoe with a bit of beef to it, a bit of support and a sole thicker than a 10p piece.
These new shoes are super-light as there's nothing to them. You must feel every undulation and standing on a small stone or twig must feel like a boulder or a branch...

This is my biggest fear

They're trying to sell shoes at the end of the day so they need some kind of marketing gimmick, whether it's true or not. I'm looking for new shoes this year too (my Adidas Traxion are 3 years in and still ok) and I admit I've been drawn in by a lot of marketing hype, particularly by the Adizeros. I tried a pair on recently in AG and despite the salesmans protestations to the contrary, I didn't notice them to be much lighter than my current shoes. Granted I only pottered around the shop in them and not 18 arduous holes, but they didn't stand out for me as being worth £100. Hype? Could be, I'm not swayed at the moment.

As for the next pair I'm looking to try, a nice all black pair of AQL's. Recommended by my golfing mentor (father) I'll be looking to give them a go, and maybe get 2 pairs for the same price as a ton spent on Adizeros, Nike lunars etc.

I quite like the look of the A-Game Pacer ( something a bit different ). But, because i spend an inordinate amount of time hacking out of the undergrowth i have similar fears to you Imurg. Mmm..

No, we mislead ourselves by thinking its possible to buy a good swing. A decent golfer can play most clubs but us average hackers...

I prefer my shoes to have some solidness so tend to go for Icon or Dryjoy (usually myjoy). I don't find any problems playing 36 holes in them. Seems a lot of stories on here of adizero and other lighter models splitting etc so makes me nervous about getting any

I wear Ecco streets, when its dry, and AQLs when it's wet. The spikes are there just to stop you slipping over, or in my case pull my right knee apart due to a missing ACL. Personally I like spike less they are lighter and do the job well enough. I don't get all this traction and grip stuff, because if you look at your golf swing you will need to overcome it at some point to get through the ball or you will damage a joint/pull a muscle/ tear a ligament etc ... Hence me thinking its just about walking around a golf course...

Interesting thought process and one that its bound not to over complicate things.

I have a damaged left knee, no cal, plc or cartlidge so I'm kinda worried about that to.

Do you have an open front foot to take the load transfer? As the left gets it all or have you adapted you swing to compensate?

I flare the front foot slightly to ease the load, but the fact is I can't really compress the ball as much as i would like in order to achieve the most from the power I put in, I lose a little in distance but for some reason I may have stumbled upon something that's helping a touch with the distance,

I find if I come through upright like you would expect from a half decent golfer, 9 holes sees my knee popping and quite painful, I've learned keeping my weight slightly back has helped but you fire the ball upwards and not forward as such. The surgeon wants to put me in a artificial knee, but I know this will ruin my golf for a couple of years, so I'm nursing what I have,

The replacement would need to take tendons from your hamstring, there are three but if you have no pcl or ACL then I don't know if they would use two of them. I was told it would take 8 months full recovery but the time off work was too much and I can live with my issue.

Speaking from experience, flaring the left foot is good and I've taken to standing at a 10 to 1 sort of stance. Recovery from operations is a quicker thing now and you could be playing much quicker than you think Baz, it's worth a chat with your consultant as I left my knee reconstruction a long while and the joint was significantly worn, due to excess movement, when I finally had it done. Since having the various bits replaced I have not felt better in years!

I prefer low profile shoes to some of the clogs out there that make you look like Herman Munster.

My current favourite shoes by far are the adidas Puremotion which suit my feet perfectly. No problem with traction or grip despite being spikeless.

I've worn my Adizero's for about 7 rounds now, have to say that they are very comfortable, I haven't noticed any problems or uncomfortable footing when walking over any part of the course, stone paths, tree roots etc. They are much lighter than my Nike Lunars (which I also like a lot), the only thing I have noticed with them, is that the spikes seem a bit more rigid than previous softspikes, but I don't think that makes any difference to the wear experience.
