Are we all going down the wrong road.

I have to concur. The whole spine angle thing has been my bete noire for years and I love the drill and demo. Staying down and rotating is what I'm trying to work on at the moment. Great when its working but hard to undo 30 years or crap. Some interesting points about the impact position although how old was that video of Montgomerie?

Not quite sure where your coming from on this. To me the golf swing has always been. From inside to square to inside. How can it be anything else, as the ball is to the side of you? Just try swinging the club like a baseball bat in front of you thats basicly the path the club takes. The only differance with the golf ball being on the flour the path will be on an angle of, somewhere between 45*- 70* depending on your hight Not sure if I have explained that very well. Its easier to show than write lol.

This is a theory I have supported. The impact between the clubface and ball is the only thing that matters, the ball understands nothing about target, out to in, in to out, how the hips, shoulders, arms head, feet etc move, it only respects how the clubface strikes it.

There is an excellent book by a guy called Joe Hagen who is a coach at Hersham Golf Club in Surry. The book is called 'Nail It' and uses a teaching program called 3 Skills. This method concentrates on the 3 main skills required to hit a golf ball well:
1) The correct clubface - impact angle
2) The inside, ball, inside clubhead path.
3) The way the clubface moves from an open to square to closed rotation through impact to create power.

Joe believes that if you focus on these skills and practice his drills that do not tell you how to move your body, only the way you must manipulate the clubhead, then you will be able to play great golf.

There are a number of drills and the use of imagery like driving nails into the ball to help you. Great read, a real breath of fresh air in golf instruction.

Most of the article is really focusing on the fact that it doesn’t matter how you do it, it’s the impact area where it happens. Floyd and Tigers swings are two great examples. The other area is the lie of the club for these guys. Hogan, Trevino and Price all had their clubs much flatter than we would have thought.

My taking from it……If I said to any pro today my clubs are 4 degrees flat, they would probably laugh.
