Have just played 4 Opens at Leven Links, Dunfermline, Downfield and Murrayfield.

The reception without exception could not have been better, catering excellent, well organised and welcoming with excellent efficiency throughout.

I play in approximately 30 Opens per annum usually in The N W and they have much to learn from our colleagues North of The Border.

Thank you for making me so welcome

Your welcome.....

The scores for the Leven Open seemed a tad high for such a very good calm day, how did you score.

Hoping to get a round in when we visit Edinburgh for 4 days in August for the Military Tattoo. Unfortunately won't be taking anything but my shoes so would be looking to hire a set while I'm there, not ideal i know. Will be staying at the Braids Hill hotel, any suggestions of the best place to play would be great from you guys,

Few good courses around town. Depends how much you want to spend. Craigmiller park is nice, as is Swanston

the braids is a good challenge, it's a council course but its well maintained and a very good challenge.

btw the tattoo is amazing. If you want to hook up for a game, give me a shout.

I plaed as a junior in sctland and was a membeat West Linton amd Bothwell Castle at different times and was always mae to feel welcome. Moved to England wen I was 16 and joined DerehamGC and was made to fee as welcome as a turd n a swimming pool, don't think they liked juniors. Was well received at Liberton Gc and Leven Links and Whitekirk. Morgs, there are loads of courses in Edinburgh and around. Braid Hills no1 is worth a visit and the 16 ile trip to West Linton wouldn't disappoint you either.

I was in Scotland a couple of weeks ago and played at Gleneagles, I have to say that everyone imet north of the border was extremely courteous and it was a pleasure to be there

More than welcome to join me at my place if you fancy it.... (Diary permitting)

On all my visits to Scotland, whether or not golf related, I have always found the Scots to be a very hospitable and friendly bunch.

In answer to the OP i would say most definately yes, having being married to a scottish lassie for the past 25 years, i have spent many a day on the golf courses around Edinburgh and can quite honestly say i have never been made anything other than most welcome. A very hospitable bunch of people:)

Hmmm... I'd give swanston a body swerve but duddingston or mortonhall are well worth a look.

I've yet to play anywhere that isn't friendly enough for what I'm there to do.

Depends what extent of friendliness you expect I suppose. I have not remained pen pals with anyone north or south of the border, so I guess that makes them as (un)friendly as each other.

I struggle sometimes to figure out if you are trying to be funny, controversial or are just an moron.

My thoughts exactly Chris.

The best welcome I've had was in Ireland at a course near Limerick , it was 9.30 in the morning and 12 hungover lads looking for a thirst quencher, she couldn't serve us pints but would 12 bottles of cider do,jackpot, it went like that all day.
Similar is Castlerock, the guy behind the bar remembers us every year we go there, class club.

The worst was Gosforth Gc , from the minute we got there we were made to feel like something you would scrape of your shoe, from a disinterested pro,not able to get any food while a club match was stuffing there faces to members checking our bags to see if we were members of clubs, horrible place and crap course to boot.
