Are Rusty Wedges Better In Terms Of Spin?

Perhaps an infinitesimal amount more - but only the first strike (on that spot).

It's 'all in t' heed'!

And any rust in the grooves actually stops the grooves performing optimally too, so more 'flyers' likely!

I've never tried any rusty wedges out (as in rusted by yourself not trusty rusty).

Hello there Ive been using 2 trusty rusty wedges that have rusted up alot now.
And honestly I bought them not because I thought I would get extra spin but because they was cheaper then the others and still are good solid wedges.
In terms of extra spin from the rust? I would say its unnoticeable from the naked eye, On machine tested perhaps there's some extra spin,

not sure they do. Ive got two Mizuno MP10 wedges which were black and are now very rusty looking and neither spin anymore than they did when they had no rust.

No, or every pro under the sun would have them rusted as hell.

I've tried rusting an oul vokey. It looks quite good but a few knocks of the ball and it starts to come off as rust tends to do. Lol

I've read many accounts on the internet stating that rust will reduce friction therefore reducing spin.

I always thought pros prefered to take spin off as it's more predictable when then ball lands as opposed to pulling back 8+ feet?

If rusted wedges gave more spin then pros would have more control from rough. It doesn't.

Pros don't take spin off, they control the spin

I have limited edition Vokey 'variable spin master' wedges, when I pitch short of the hole they spin like a top, if I pitch to the flag or beyond they pitch and roll out fully.

agree 100%

Rusted wedges are mostly for aesthetic purposes. Done right it can look quite well. Also there is vastly reduced glare from a rusted wedge. Quite an important thing to think about playing in the sun on the PGA tour.
