Had a discussion during a Texas scramble yesterday about Nike, in general as a golf brand. It was a 50/50 split with 2 of us agreeing Yes they are and have as much technology etc as titliest, callaway. Whilst the other 2 stated that titliest and callaway are miles ahead.

Thoughts?

They have been for years IMO

Woods made them a golf brand

Believe their club making is subcontracted out to companies in Japan and China, so they are probably as good as the other premium brands . Certainly their prices are about the same.

Most certainly. In my opinion they make the best clothing and apparel, and the clubs are now getting to that same level. I own the Covert 2.0 irons, and they're exceptional, easily the best irons I've hit. They're never going to be seen as on par with the likes of Titleist and Mizuno when it comes to club making, but the improvements are impressive to say the least. I love Nike as a brand, and hope they stick around and continue to improve as they have done in recent years.

Most definitely. Both their clubs and Their clothing is the best from an aesthetic viewpoint and they have come a long way in a short space of time.
their prices are genuinely slightly cheaper too which is a bonus.

I'm assuming the folk who said they weren't said so because they are a multi sport company unlike TM, Titleist and Callaway.

Well TM are owned by Adidas are they not ? So they are part of a multi sport company

I'm not quite sure they 'amount of technology makes any company a recognised golf brand. 99% of the technical stuff the companies come out with is mostly marketing guff. And if you compares like with like then a 6 iron from Titliest with the same loft as 6 iron from Nike would go just about exactly the same distance.

And as others have said, the most famous sports person on the planet for a few years used their golf equipment, so I'd say they would be pretty well recognised.;)

They won't be a recognised brand until they get a top player playing their stuff.

Hang on a sec ......

Nike golf stuff is pretty good these days. Wasn't great at first but they have got there. Not sure about those wrap grips on some of their clubs, though.

I'm not sure why but I only see Nike as a clothing/shoe brand when it comes to golf, they have never been on my radar when purchasing clubs/balls or other golf equipment.

They seem to be a very well recognised golf brand. They have the players on their books and know how to shove their product down everyones throats. I don't think they are as popular as they used to be with Joe Public, and their street cred certainly hasn't been great of late. My two teen daughters won't be seen dead in Nike stuff.

I own the Nike Lunar gold shoes £29 from the Nike Outlet up my way but they are pretty basic with the RRP of £89 I'd have been raging if I paid that for them.

Always preferred Titleist as a golf brand. Don't use anything else quite as much. Maybe too scared to use Nike stuff in case I like it lol

Definitely for clothes, bags, shoes etc. I had one set of Nike irons once and they weren't great, but they were a 2009 model (CCI) so I'm sure they've come a long way since then!

Most shoes are basic ? What more do you need out of them bar comfort , grip and styling ?!

who pays RRP for golf gear? bet you'd be hard pushed to find many who do regularly.

I have a Nike golf bag but got that for free. Must admit they're not at the top of my list when it comes to actually buying golf equipment but I'm not really at a good enough level in the game to be comparing different makes of clubs

I can't comment on clubs, but for clothing they are the best IMHO. I think it is because they manage to reuse the amount of know-how and R&D from other sports into golf. I have a several Nike items among the golf-specific clothes I have, they come out as the best in terms of materials and breathability.

Nike clothing is great. they have made some great clubs in the past. Been an owner of Nike pro combos (if fact I still have two sets) and some Nike wedges.

Nothing wrong with their clubs at all. I am just not a fan of their current look. I think it is a marketing joke that has snowballed into a world of florescent madness.

Like anything Nike have a range of golf stuff from entry level to top, I certainly put Nike equipment right up there and even ahead of some of the more recognised brands in some areas.
