Are accurate wedge players ruining golf? Not talking about the professional level, but standard amateur courses.

Approaching short par 4s to within 3 feet, escaping from hazards designed specifically to force a managed approach, holing par 5s in three. Is this not taking the character out of courses and spoiling the game for the bigger hitters?

Yes.

Everyone should have the shanks like me, and then we'd all have a level playing field.

I'm all for reversing the rough too. Put in the middle where the fairways are, and shave the rough. Like a brazillian. I'm never on the fairway at the moment.

It depends. I'm a great believer in you only get out what you put in. That applies to most sports and not just golf, but if someone is prepared to invest their time to getting a great short game and becoming a good bunker player then fair play to them. We can all use the same clubs if we wanted so you can't blame the equipment

Yes. They are.

There's just such little value in playing good wedge shots. Everytime you knock it stone dead that's then 2 less shots (at least) you've paid not to play.

All assisted by the scourge of the modern game - the GPS. :D

Am I reading this right?

Surely great wedge play is one of the toughest skills to master in golf? I think if you can put it close from 10-120 yards then that's all about feel and technique, and should be worth all the praise. Look at Tiger or Lefty round the green, or poor old Seve. They're a pleasure to watch.

A low checking pitch is better than a booming long drive. Discuss. :)
