Just watching a bit of the PL Matchplay from Archerfield Fidra course.

It looks quite nice, but is it a links??

Plenty of Pot Bunkers and Gorse, but not particularly links like.. from what i can see

Anyone played it and opinions?

It's a strange one Patrick. Front 9 is tight and tree lines with some great holes, get to the turn and it opens up quite a bit and feels a lot more like a links. Soil all the way round is quite sandy so it does play like a links IMO even though the front 9 looks quite parkland.
Fidra is my favourite of the two.

It looks a nice course Greig, maybe the TV.

How did you get to play it?

Played the Fidra myself
Due to its location, was expecting a links track too
But it's not
As Greg has said, pretty much tree lined and quite tight to begin, then opens up
Greens were great, and slick, fairways cut really short and tight too
The whole place is immaculate, tremendous set up
Great welcome
Great clubhouse with very reasonable prices considering
Great locker rooms and valet service
Chipping green and range is laid out with pyramids of balls

Great experience

Nice place, nice courses and nice people. Fairways are better than some greens I have played on.

They also have the Nike Performance Centre there, lovely facility, and I only hope that it remains under another guise

Its looks a right " midden" , seriously looks a cracking course from the coverage, my brother in law has played it an said it was superb as were the facilities.

Spot on description of the course!

'Experience' is fabulous! Cannot quite say the same about some of the 'houses' that adjoin the course though! There's one that actually looks like a (bad) Pub! That was some time ago, so they may now be hidden by growth on the (bulldozer created) bank that separates the course from the development.

The houses are in their own wee enclave and are of various styles. Every so often one does come up for sale around the £750k mark. They are also building new single story houses down by the shore

Always bare feet. Miserable old git.
Playing there next Tuesday in fact, being treated to 36 holes and lunch for fitting some shelving in their garage. Fair deal in my book.

If you need someone to carry your tools next time you're fitting shelves just give me a yell 😊😊

Greig pretty much nailed it, great course. I much preferred the tree lined holes on the fidra rather than the open holes, I felt the were more varied.

Playing it again in 4 weeks

..

Likewise. These were much more interesting than the 'open field but not quite links' ones. Didn't make them any easier to score on mind! And it's probably a somewhat harsh criticism too...plenty of links courses have holes that aren't particularly close to the sea!

I have played the Fidra and really liked it. The second hole is one of my favourites anywhere.

Facilities are excellent as are the staff and food. I was a wee bit uneasy with people asking to clean my shoes in the changing room.
