Archerfield Links?

Played the Fidra and quite enjoyed it.

Good mix of Parkland and Links holes.

Top notch service everywhere and great practice facilities - a place where you can relax!

Some hideous 'houses' were 'hidden' by a rather false looking 'dune' and there were a couple of other 'manufactured' elements, but it was quite a while ago, so things might look more natural now.

We got slightly unlucky with the greens not being their traditional rocket speed, but it's certainly a quality course!

The Dirleton is supposedly more linksy throughout.

playing the Dirleton, prefer links so looking forward to it

Links my arse.

Both decent courses though although when I was there 3 weeks ago the Direlton was in poor nick with more sand on it that North Berwick beach.

so its not a links? dont know hence why I asked, thanks for pointing out about the sand, pretty common on the majority of courses April/May

It is about as Links like as Dalmahoy.

Majority of courses? Really?

I play a hell of a lot of golf elsewhere and I truly have never seen such an amount as what was on that course that day.Getting a preferred lie was impossible.

Greens rolled okay but the rest of the course was dreadful.Service as always was good.

and your point is? jeebus you just love an argument dont ya!

Shame to hear it wasn't in good nick. If I was a member I wouldn't be too happy with the costs of membership being as they are!

Always been top notch when I've played, nice set up, great clubhouse although a bit "corporate".

Those "hideous" houses will set you back a couple £m

My village has a better looking 'rent to buy' development than Archerfield where the houses are built to close to each other and very 'ordinary'.
If I spent £1m on a house I would certainly want a much better setting than that.

As I mentioned...

I didn't say it was 'a links course', though given that there's no real definition of a links course....arguable...

Here's the blurb from Archerfield's website http://www.archerfieldgolfclub.com/golf/dirleton-links

Dirleton links

On coastal land that has hosted golf for over 100 years, DJ Russell has created the 18 holes of the Dirleton Links.

It's a challenging expression of a traditional Scottish links course with its sweeping fairways, deep, menacing bunkers and undulating dunes bordering the fairways. Already enjoyed by a quartet of Masters Champions, from Gary Player to Ian Woosnam.

Not keen on most Armani clothes, which seem to exhibit similar chunky/brash 'taste'. There was one, not quite hidden by that 'dune' that looked as if a Harvester's Pub had been uprooted!

It certainly made the 'consistent style' ones at Craigielaw look (even more?) elegant. But I don't believe the inhabitants care much what golfers think of their 'creations'!

Played it early May and was in decent nick , fairways were improving and the greens true and fairly sharp.
Enjoyable round of level par and a top notch club sandwich.

Reminded me of the Kintyre at Turnberry with the "gorse-lined" fairways.
