Playing a work match at Archerfield Fidra on Sunday. Anyone played it and know what to look out for? I hasn't rained properly up here in donkeys and the fairways at my home course are like concrete so expecting a lot of run perhaps. Maybe quick greens which I'm not used to as well.

Nothing spectacularly tricky - except when the greens are super-fast!

Just enjoy the fabulous, relaxing facilities and the course!

Please explain?

You are greeted at the door by a very nice man who takes your clubs off you and transports them to where you leave the changing room to head for the first tee and he also takes your shoes from you to take them to the locker room for you while you head into the restaurant for your pre-round roll and coffee.

Where I come from, that would be classed as attempted robbery but at Archerfield it's customer service... :)

All joking apart it is a fabulous clubhouse with lovely staff and a really nice feel. Worth arriving a little early if you have the time to enjoy. The range and practice facilities are also first class so add some extra time for that too.

Yep going as early as possible (8am) to hopefully take it all in.

After half a bottle of sherry, by the looks of it 😉

If only, sadly i was Ger147's chauffeur that day :D
But seriously, the course was great despite the rain, sleet and 30 mph wind. I'd love to play it again on a dry sunny day.
The staff were great, remember and stop and get a wee pie at the halfway bar

Beautiful day when I played it but I didn't actually enjoy it all that much. I suspect that's because I played badly. I remember they had the pins in some crazy places. We couldn't get near them.

Facilities are excellent, if you like that sort of thing. Bit showy for my liking but definitely a change from the normal experience.

I'm led to believe some of the greens aren't the greatest currently, it was like that last year too just after the Paul Laurie matchplay.

Cracking course though, great clubhouse and a good golf experience. It's a very American setup.

Oh, and try the pies at the halfway house

Played the Fidra today. Absolutely top class!!

Condition of the course is fantastic and such a pleasure to play on. Hit the jackpot with the weather and turned out I brought my best game with me.

Playing off the blues (second hindmost) and shot 5 over for the front 9. Couple of ropey holes on the back 9 probably looking at a mid 80s score overall but with it being matchplay didn't hole everything out so can't put an exact number on it. Took the spoils form both the doubles and singles matches from the round. Hitting irons off most of the tees as they were pretty reachable and striking it lovely. Birdies at the par 4 3rd and the par 5 11th.

The biggest difference between the Fidra and Braid Hills where I regularly play is the greens. Wow, so receptive to approach shots, especially with the recent rainfall yet rolling so true when putting. You can really pick your line and hit confident putts and a few dropped from range, which considering recent putting woes was such a bonus.

Some great views over the the forth coastline.

Hospitality top notch and food was good too. Best golf experience to date and can't wait for hopefully more opportunities to play this quality of course.
