Apple Watch

Brother tried it. Golf shot only displayed middle. Hole 19 gave FMB. Based on phone position so need to make sure that if the phone is in the bag that the bag is nearish.

He wasn't impressed to be honest. Thought the app provided much better info with map views etc and wasn't much additional hassle to use his phone.

Overall he really didn't like the watch either. Overpriced and gimmicky without actually looking that good or doing much. Sent it back. Frankly you would probably be better of getting a specific watch GPS.

Never buy first generation with any tech. Early adopters are Beta testers. The app developers will start to come around to making apps work for it now that they have unlocked the accelerometer system for coding. Seems totally bonkers that they had that locked up. Typical Apple though. Watch for a lot of apps coming through the store dealing with swing path, speed and where the hands are during the swing etc.

I think Zipp could be a very worried company at the moment unless they evolve to getting their stuff on the Watch. Phone measures the hip turn as long as it's in your pocket and their glove clip does the magic. I think the watch coule replace it. I can see someone like Game Golf using the watch for range finding as it's such a good tool already, you could tag your club too using NFC.

My concern with the Watch is battery life, it's not good enough yet, but like I said it's still only first gen so still a way to go yet.

Thanks guys,
I have been fortunate enough to have been given a watch for my birthday. I'll use it for a number of things, not just golf, so no issues on that front.
I've had a look at golf shot but heard of a few issues with the watch version. I'll have a look at hole 19. Cheers

Had my first round using the Hole19 app yesterday (not yet with watch). I have to say I was very impressed, can't believe this is a free app (well if you don't count the cost of an iphone). Looking forward to seeing my stats improve over the course of the coming months and using the stats to focus where I need to improve.
