A question for all you golfers out there who have had their appendix removed - how long did it keep you sidelined for?

I just had to have mine wipped out on Monday and was wondering how long that it is going to keep me out of action for. Do you think ill be back in action for Sunday, or is there more chance of Homer reaching single figures?

Thanks

Ermmm... Sunday is probably a no go but it really doesn't take long!

Did you have keyhole? They told me 2 weeks but I felt after 8-9 days fine enough to play.

I guess its one of those where an extra couple of days rest now will benefit in the long run...

wow I must be getting old with granny advice like that

Thanks Dave

Yes it was keyhole as everything went smoothly fortunately. I've already cancelled for this Sunday but maybe a possibility of the week after, fingers crossed.

Hey homer you never know, stranger things have happened. ....I heard smiffy once found the sweetspot and that bobmac got a round in once :D

I can talk from very recent personal experience I had mine out on the 26th October, and just played my first round after it today, I've done one range session in between that but I made sure to take it easy if I were you, I'm a bit sore after today and all, although I do carry so maybe if you use an electric trolley then you might be ok.

Be careful though, don't give yourself a hernia!

Best of luck with the recovery though

You could always ask the surgeon. They all play golf don't they ?

How'd you manage to get those?!

No idea. Two inguinal hernias in the right groin area and one (possibly two but the image wasn't conclusive) on the left side. My old doctors surgery said it wouldn't treat them unless they became unbearable painful. Starting to get more and more uncomfy so might have to go to my new surgery and get a second opinion

All I can contribute is I wish they did it keyhole when I was a kid. Would've saved me a week out of hospital and a god awful scar.

Chap who works for me had his out 3 weeks ago he came back to work after two weeks and I had to send him home again found out he had an infection. So things aren't always straight forward. Good Luck

I had mine out through keyhole surgery about 6-7 years ago. Sad to say, if you are trying to impress the ladies, the scar is small and reduces each year so that now it is barely noticeable.

The issue with your appendix is that the healing occurs internally and so you can't see it. Twisting and turning for a golf shot is exactly the type of movement that will hamper the recovery. You can be macho and play next week but if that causes a tear and you have internal bleeding then that is not so clever. Take advice from your surgeon but in your shoes I would wait until the New Year. It's only winter golf anyway so it is not as if you are missing glorious weather and perfect conditions.
