Anyone use a fubuki shaft

Got a Fubuki shaft in my Nike VR_s 3 wood, no idea why they're so expensive, it's possible that the Nike ones are made for shafts so possibly not as expensive, but i'm sure somebody on here knows.

I used to have one in a R9 driver, they are decent shafts but certainly not the most expensive, in fact no more expensive than any other decent shaft.

There are different Fubuki shafts in the series, including 'made for' versions which will be cheaper and have different playing characteristics from the 'real deal'.

Overall, a very good range of lightweight shafts which offer a good powerful flight and good stable feel.

Okay, I am a bit of a Fubuki shaft specialist. I have the one that fits the titleist 910, this is real deal. I have one from the mizuno range and one from the nike vrs range. Now in my opinion the mizuno one is the best, the tip is a little stiffer and this makes it feel a little more controlled. The real deal has a slightly higher flight and a little more play in the tip, I dropped the head weight of my 910 down by 6-7g to help it, but if you want more snappy release then just increase the weights. The nike vrs was just a complete farce, too soft in the tip and the ball flight is very high.

Illustrates the fact the 'made for' has a very variable effect. Mizuno started with the real thing and many would say improved it, at least as far as the 630 head is concerned. Some other versions best less resemblance to the real deal shaft.

I have the (real deal) Fubuki Alpha in my driver and I'm really pleased with it. The shaft feels lovely and smooth and controls my spin well; I can't recall ballooning any drives whatsoever with my current combination.

My previous driver was a Nike VRS with Oban Devotion, which also controlled spin very well and I don't recall ballooning that combo either.

My driver previous to that was a Cobra AMP with (real deal) RIP Alpha, tipped an extra 1" over manufacturers recommendations. With that combo, I remember ballooning many drives.

The point to my post is that a shaft, no matter how good it is at its intended purpose, needs to be paired with the right head. The three shafts above are good, low/mid spin, low/mid launch shafts... 2 worked, and 1 didn't. That is down to the launch and spin characteristics of the Fast 12LS and VRS heads in combination with the shafts, not a failing of the RIP Alpha shaft (which I have tried in a VRS and which did not balloon).

I don't think any reference should be made to the 'made for' shaft in the VRS series... imo, that had zero characteristics similar to any of the Fubuki Series models.

I agree that some if the made fore bear little resemblance to the real thing. This is brand marketing. Then a punter who uses a club with one of the poor quality made for shafts buys a club with the real deal, thinking they are the same, but can't hit the real one.

It is worth looking at the ckubmakers website at shaft specs then look at the shaft makers and see if they compare.

Do us amateurs benefit from this much in depth knowledge?? I have a fubuki shaft in my £60 Cleveland Launcher driver because it came with it and I wouldn't know if it had a stiff, controlled or farcical tip. Its works though.

I am only answering the question with my findings. By all means ignorance is bliss ... Lets go burn books! :blah:

yes we do get the wrong shaft and you will know all about it

If you don't want to know, and the shaft works, then that's fine. It's only if you are interested in this area of the game - and that can be a hobby in itself - or are having (or suspect that you are having) problems 'caused' by shaft that there's any need to consider it.

It really can be a case of ignorance is bliss and a little knowledge can indeed be a dangerous thing!

Incidentally if you want something similar but budget look at the UST range, the axivcore and VTS are around £80-115. The project X is supposed to be similar but I don't have any experience of it.
