I'm having a fitting for irons soon and have been considering the following;

Nike Pro Combo
Taylormade MB or MC
Titleist AP2
Titleist CB
Cobra S3 Pro
Cleveland CG Tour

have you tried any and what are your thoughts?

Cheers in advance.

+1 for the Ap's
but why not think ap's 3-6 and look at the mb's 7-pw.
Excellent feel and workability for someone of your standard of game

I found the AP2s a little clunky, and they just didnt fit my eye. The CBs however were great to hit and looked good too.

I ended up going for the Nike VR ProCombos, very similar to the CBs in looks and feel, but personally felt they offered a little more forgiveness in the long irons with the pocket cavity.

Gil, - I went from AP2's to the CB's, and to be honest, very little difference, I only changed because the PX shafts in teh AP's were a little firm for me I think. R300's in my CB's.

I'd used Ping Zing2's for many years, and initially didnt find the Titleists anywhere near as long, but that doesnt matter, its all about the shot making credentials of the Titleists.

AP's or CB's you wont go wrong with, but get the right shaft.

I replaced my Titleist 695 CBs a few months back after going for a custom fit. Tried out pretty much every Mizuno model plus the Nikes and the 710 CBs.

The fitter said that the Nikes, the MP-63's and the CBs with the same shaft were all giving basically the same numbers so it was just down to which ones I preferred.

Really liked the idea of having a beautiful set of Mizuno's in the bag :) but the CB's just felt the best by miles for me, so I had to get them.

No regrets since, definitely made the right decision, absolutely love em.

All down to personal preference though. Go get fitted and try to throw out any preconceived biases about any brands and then just work out the best set for you with the fitter.

Had a fitting session for the new Taylormade Tour Preffered models. Eventually went for a split set with 4-6 in the Muscle Cut and 7-PW in Muscle Back.

Both felt great to hit but decided on the Muscle Cut for the longer irons to offer that little bit of forgiveness.

Now feeling sorry for my old Mizzy's lol

Was there a shank in that fitting session??????

;)

I've got the cleveland cg1 blades, the cg tour are a combo type set.

Can't recommend them highly enough, beautiful clubs to look at over the ball and so sweet to hit. I love them and the latest ones would be top of my list to look at.

I do love the look of the cobra s3 pro aswell though.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Bratty, I don't really know too much about Mizzies but any recommendations would be gratefully received.

two of the best clubs I tried AP2 and CB, to my mind better than any of the Mizzies.
did not like the Nikes at all,
Cobra's were no improvement on my old Mac 565's and with way too much offset for my liking
