Anyone tried reverse tapered grips?

I have been struggling a bit lately, shot consistency has been non existent and I have been compiling bogeys like no tomorrow. Well last night I was out, and it was getting a touch frustrating, until I looked at my left hand grip which had weakened off and the butt was in my palm and not my fingers. I altered this so that I had it in my fingers and got a sharpy and drew a happy face on my 2 knuckles so that I could see them. The result was incredible, my line was improved significantly and I was suddenly putting for birdies and hitting tee shots down my intended lines (I stayed out till it got dark because I was loving it!!). Anyway I have been running thick grips and I was wondering if this was causing my hand to slip round for comfort and should I try a reverse taper or if not try a reduced amount of tape at the top but more lower down?

I am sure some people will have an opinion on this so please say and why...

Is it possible you're re-gripping at some point in your swing, causing the issue?

Re: Thicker grips.

I used to play a Lamkin grip (0.58) with 3 layers of tape and 1 layer of grip tape under it. With that being fitted to a 0.600 shaft I was playing a grip that had the equivalent of 5 layers.

After my pro took a look, he suggested standard grip, built up 1/32" over size (0.600 core grip with 2 layers of masking tape and 1 layer of grip tape). Felt so skinny at first, I really didn't like it.

Stick with it and now love it. Shots are more consistent and I don't feel like I'm holding a cricket bat.

Get down to your pro and swing a club with a stock grip on and see how it feels.

no not re-gripping during the swing, my initial grip is off, once I re set it I got better results, but I was thinking perhaps it uncomfortable being too thick at the top. I will spend some time just practicing because there are associated issues with a grip change.

My grips have less taper as I have a few more tapes lower down the grip so that my right hand doesn't feel so loose. The guys at Precision Golf did it for me as I felt my right hand wasn't doing much, so to speak, at impact. It's a winner for me.
