Trundled down to Devon on Friday am and played Dartmouth in the afternoon and Thurlestone the next day.
Dartmouth was very good and a very good test, with some very iconic holes (3rd, 4th & 18th are ones that spring to mind immediately) and for £25 was excellent, however, it absolutely sh*t it down for the first 6 holes which made things very difficult, but kudos to the greenstaff as they were out dispersing the water from the greens. Dartmouth is quite a tight course (especially the 4th) and you really need to plan your way round, but boy its worth it.
Thurlestone however was a different story. £42 but this was for a day ticket, so we played 18 then another 11. I have to say that this is the best course that I have EVER played and I have played Royal Birkdale, Forest of Arden and The Brabazon. The views are out of this world and with even Peter Allis saying that he likened it to Pebble Beach I can see where he was coming from. The course was also in superb condition and with the weather to match i was in golfing heaven. Iconic holes for me were the 1st - a 235yrd Par 4 (3-wood or soft driver?), 6th - a 115yrd Par 3 with bunkers ALL the way round the green which go down to the earth's core! The 17th is similar to this too, and finally the 90deg doglegged 16th as when you turn the corner the view to and beyond the green is spectacular.
Anyway, have any of you lot played these courses as I would interested to hear other views as for £67 it has definitely been the best money that I have spent this year on golf and that includes the £99 that I spent on my Mizuno MP630 Fastrack driver!!
