Looking for a family break in Sussex/ Kent around Easter. One high handicap, two mid handicaps. Dale Hill looks quite nice in the blurb, anyone played it, or have any other suggestions down there ?

I have played there a few years ago. Can't remember the specifics but I remember we all said we would go back there. It is on the rota for the golf tour I have signed up for so I do not think you would be dissapointed.

Very nice track with some great views across the downs. Well worth a visit in my opinion. Was originally built as a buggy only course, but I think you can walk it. If you do, it is a stiff walk, but on a lovely day not a bad place to be!

I played the Woosnam a few years ago and it was a decent course. They had a leg of the Europro there recently - it is on Youtube so worth checking out. Cant comment on the other course or the hotel as we only stayed the day.

Obvious maybe, but the alternative is East Sussex National which has 2 excellent courses and fantastic facilities - health club etc for the family. Tunbridge Wells not too far away for a day trip/food as the hotel is slightly cut off.

as said its a bit of a trek on foot.could be a bit tough for a high h/cap player but the course is definitely worth a go. east sussex national has two good courses not quite so leggy but a buggy would be my choice. as said its out on a limb but so is dale hill ,Brighton isnt too far from the national about twenty odd minutes by car.
why not see if a member of the site can accomodate you and yours for a round on their track.
i would but injury has me sidelined at the moment.

I guess you mean the Woosnam course, I played it a number of times, in fact I actually purchased my house while enjoying a round there!

It's a typical modern course, as was said it was designed for buggy play but now you pay extra for one, so quite a walk! Some real mixture of holes and not really any duff ones, the greens are usually good and the more I've posted it the more I've liked it. I did stay there one weekend and the hotel and food was excellent ( a few years back) and they now have a driving range

Played there a few times and I think its a great course, some very nice par 3's.

Played there 5/6 times and would go back really enjoy playing there, think there is two courses one the Woosnam where you had to have a buggy and I've not played, the other I've played and I can't remember it being a hard walk.

Nice course and Smiffy also loves the place;)

the Dale hill course is very different to the woosie course ,shorter and easier to walk ,.
if it was a toss up between the the two tracks at Dale hill and East sussex national ,the national would win hands down for me.

Never played East Sussex but what I've read on here I'm sure your right.

Dunno where you get that from!!

Have played it loads of times, but for some reason I can't warm to the place.
The "Old Course" is okay(ish). Has a few reasonable holes, but a lot of "meh" ones too. I've never particularly enjoyed playing round there, always seemed a bit scruffy to me, and the greens were never up to much.
The Woosnam course is a different kind of course altogether. Much more your modern, stadium type. Again, some reasonable holes, but none that particular stand out as "great".
Quite a lot of walking green to tee, and a few changes in elevation so I certainly wouldn't want to take it on without a buggy.
I've never stayed at the hotel so can't comment on what that's like.
There are better courses in the area. If I were staying around that way I would personally make the trip to the Nevill (Tunbridge Wells) and would try to venture down to East Sussex National as others have said.
Of the two courses there, I much prefer the "East" over the "West".

Whoosh

I remember you saying a while back you didn't rate the course.

Dale Hill... Meh.

How about driving up to Westerham or The Addington? Play some proper golf. Not far to go and you'll have a much more memorable round.

ESN is Ok.. It's our sister course so we get 12 rounds a year included there.

The West is the nicer course, by some margin. The East is interesting in places, and open off the tee, but the West has the variety and is more memorable for my money.
