Not having a drink last night enabled a mate and I to play a local course this morning. Neither of us are members there so we were going to pay green fees. We got there about 9.45am to find the club house and pro shop were both closed so decided to pay when we got in.

The heavy rain was due in at 2pm so we didn't hang around and despite the gale force winds we were finished by 1pm. Throughout the whole round there was not one other person on the course even though this club has almost 600 members. There was still no sign of life in the pro shop or clubhouse at the end of the round so we couldn't even get a drink afterwards let alone pay for the round.

Did anyone else get out there today or are you all suffering?

Been out this morning, was quite chilly and not many about.

Had a really strange incident, as we were on the 18th tee two older guys appeared behind us, as my mate was teeing off they were slowly creeping up behind us never said a word. My mate put his ball into thick rough and called it as it was a provisional the two guys then proceeded to go and look for my mates ball. As we walked off.

Played in the Bambo Cup today which is a 9 hole comp but played backwards. Tee off in front of the 18th and play to the 17th green etc.

Very good fun and quite a few were out playing, there were 8 of our usual group today. i did feel a bit off to start with as i didn't get home ti 5.50 AM this morning;)

Sounds like it was shut , as ours is today for the Bank Holiday. After last nights party not keen on any golfing action just happy for a brisk 2 miler with the dogs

We were open for the first time since Boxing Day, there should have been a fun mixed comp on but there was a distinct lack of interest due to the weather, so I played 9 holes with one of the juniors until the weather drove us in. It was just nice to get out to be honest.

Got out this morning with HID and two other men but only did nine as the rain was really starting to come in. Hardly anyone on the course.

It did seem like that but knowing the owner there would be no chance of that. We joked that we expected to see him coming out on a buggy just to see if we were members. The course is in cracking nick but is prone to flooding and he even keeps the course open when you can see more water than grass.

Big 4BBB comp at our place and weather milder but breezy! Shot 2 over gross for the back 9 so chuffed with that. No kitchen staff on duty though so a packed clubhouse afterwards but no food - and they wonder why it doesn't do well

Yep - food has been poor for ages so a new chef at the helm but he's off today when the opportunity was there to make an impression...poor planning.

Played in what is called our "Root Putter" competition, its a Greensomes format, there was a list up to enter but it seems historically that everyone just turns up around 10am and partners are drawn and off you go.

It is also traditional that players bring food to the club to share over lunch, not many fillet steaks but mince pies and other Christmas/New Year goodies always go down well.

I was drawn with a lady that I'd played in a mixed comp before and got on very well with and the other couple in our 4-ball was the lady captain and her husband.

Its only played over 12 holes and its half the combined handicap. I didn't realise it was a board comp, the putter on the board above the bar was pointed out to me later in the day, but, our name will be going on it

So I've had a decent month (December) with a 3rd in a Stableford, 3rd in the Hamper Comp, 2nd in the 3-club challenge and now 1st in The Root Putter comp, bring on 2015, I'm ready for you aggressive.gif

We were still closed but thankfully not under snow! Nice but if rain and milder weather melted it all over night but then obviously water logged. Should be ready for the weekend, I'm away though so no help for me!

Great to get your name up there. Good work mate, hope its a sign of things to come:cheers:

Popped out for a solo 18 this morning , but got hit by a sleety squall on the exposed 1st green. 30mph stinging rain right into my face , soaked through almost instantly. Tried to hide behind a brolly to hopefully let it pass, but brolly collapsed under the wind. After a few mins, with the warm clubhouse still in view, I decided this was still my holidays and being cold and miserable was a stupid way to spend it. A coffee and a fruit scone later I felt must better! I'm enthusiastic for my golf, but there are limits.
