Im thinking of going ap1 in long irons and ap2 in he rest just wondering if anyone else has a combo set.

I don't but its a very sensible idea, I do know lots that do and its mostly cat1's:smirk:

When I ever change back to Titleist (my first love in Irons) it will be for a CB and MB combo set

Would you notice the difference between the two models as they are broadly similar? Garnted the AP1's are a little more forgiving, but I wouldn't say vastly more so.

If you were to say, for example, a CB/MB combo then that would have much more of a diference.

They are very different

Interesting idea, but Im not sure I see it working due to the difference in head size and possibly weight of the head.

They are 2 very different clubs which I why I have reservations, the feel, and flight could quite probably be very different.

A CB/MB combo would be the logical way to go.

All that said, I may be wrong

One is cast, one is forged

The AP2 is a smaller, more compact head

The AP2 always felt heavier to me?

If you were to take a 4 iron from each range, have the paint fill and graphics removed, and were told to hit 5 balls with each you would see improved performance in one over the other? Or even be able to tell which club you were hitting?

Now do the same with an MB 4 iron and a CB 4 iron. I'd hazard a guess you would notice a significant difference.

got bot in demo iron and like chalk and cheese the ap1 is more like a game improvement iron ap2 is not

If you have experience with both sets, why then only you can answer that question?

To me a combo set should fit your game, not someone elses opinion. If you feel you can tell the difference and you feel that's the best set up for your game, then go for it

You would be able to see the difference instantly with the size of the topline and shape of the head regardless of if you removed the graphics.

Ive hit both, and the AP2 has a more positive feel off the face as you would expect, I found it had a slightly lower ball-flight.

They really are 2 very, very different clubs

If I change irons next year, this combo is how ill go.

One thing to check is to get your yardage gaps sorted at the changeover point, so a good fitting is even more important.

Why don't you just go for a full set of AP1's - at your handicap they would be perfect

yes but your Mr perfect.. Have not got an ego most people in my club use dunlop

Ignoring the ego rubbish - he is right on going for the AP1's ( if your that desperate to get Titleist )

Getting a combo is not a smart move IMO - two different types of clubs that won't mix

Cheers pal:thup:
What as other people using Dunlops got to do with it?
Just try AP1 & 2s & see what suits. If it all goes pear shaped theirs always the For sale & wanted section
