Been trying to arrange a game near Leeds with Tashy & his mates. Thought of Moortown, Allwoodley & Moor Allerton. Price wise, Moortown & Alwoodley are in the £90 bracket. Moor Allerton is £25! I always thought these courses were on a par. Can anyone explain?

Moor Allerton is a great course (3 loops of 9) with big ,fast greens. I wouldn't put it in the bracket of Moortown or Alwoodley. For £25 notes though it's certainly a steal.

MiB, pay the money, get it booked quickly. Moor Allerton is a cracking place and if it was in the North East we would probably consider it in the top 3 in the area. I've played it once so only played 2 of the loops of 9 but I loved it. Very good course, perfect conditioning. £25 is an absolute steal unless something weird has happened to the place since I played it around 4 years ago.

I haven't played the other two but know someone who has and raves about them. That sounds a cracking set you are booking, proper golf.

(if you wanted to save some money on the £90 courses, top courses and so ignore if not a factor, then look a little further above Leeds at Pannal or Oakdale. If everyone is happy with the £90 then stay where you are )

What he said. Its fine for a day out, with some great holes. Having played it once, and enjoyed it, I'd not rush back. That's not because its rubbish in anyway. Equally, I've played the other 2 a number of times and would quite happily revisit. You get what you pay for, and you wouldn't be wasting money playing Moor Allerton.

Been lurking on this forum for a while, and can actually contribute something useful as played moor allerton last sunday.

Course was supberb, greens fast and true, and the sraff were spot on. Played in the afternoon, hardly anyone else playing and got the choice of which 2 x9, opted for middle and top.

For 25 quid its a bargain, although as i haven't played the other 2 mentioned upthread, i cant make an objective comparison as to whether its as good.

Once more the tash is involved in summay that went tits up. But were persevering. As i write. Oh dear the spuds have scored.

Heyup HWS me man. Cheers and welcome to the fruitcake shop.

I play with a greens keeper from Alwoodly. Apparently they are struggling with the recent dry weather.
They are hand watering greens but it's dropping the temp of the greens and growth isn't good.

Moor Allerton is a great course, Chiefo is a member he might be able to help.

Having played a few course's in the area Alwoodley is superb, Moor Allerton would definitely recommend but wouldn't put Pannal in the same bracket as either. Nice course but not (imo) to the standard of these. I'd put Knaresborough infront and also recommend Rudding Park and Cookridge too. Never played Sand Moor but apparently thats a great course.

Marshy, do you not find Rudding dull? I've played a few corporate rounds there and I just find it bland.

Fully agree about Knaresbrough, one of my favourite, if not my absolute favourite course / club. I didn't mention it as the lads are looking at Leeds and I was trying to mention courses nearer there than the other side of Harrogate. Great area for golf, loads of good options.

Bang on reply.

Surprised Moor allerton is so cheap. If you paid £50 to play it you wouldnt feel short-changed either. Ive played it about 10 times, and all 3 loops are strong, cracking place for a game.

I did at first but then have played a couple more times and like it more each time I play it. Agree about Knaresborough, really enjoyed it when we played it and are playing it again in July.

Agree with Pete, Moor Allerton is a steal at £25.
