This game is driving me insane!! I spent all winter fighting a severe hook left, now, i have developed a high push right!!! arrrrrghhhhhhhh! im gonna end up in an institution!!! im also in danger of losing my single figure handicap, have went up from 8.9 to 9.4 since our season started....:(

How's your grip?
Hold a club as normal and then check it in a mirror.
Does it look like this?

or can you see any of your gloved (left) thumb

bob, i have a strong grip, which is making it all the more confusing, and at my last lesson it was apparent i was closing the club to the line at the top of the backswing, so i suppose im either swaying or collapsing.....range work today me thinks!

I feel your pain. Went out and played a few holes last night. Smack it and walk after it as everyone on here has advised. No swing thoughts or anything technical. Sliced into heavy rough off the first lost ball. Shank off the next. Sliced tee shot on the third. Finally hit a fairway and green at the next. Cut through to play the last. Slice OB and hacked my way up with the other ball. Six holes played and 2 lost balls. Not thinking isn't working

Biffa, dont be confused. Relax.
Your strong grip is as you know causing your hook but also the high right shot.
If your grip is too strong, it's more difficult to release the hands properly, therefor sometimes not releasing them at all. (high right)
Think of it this way...
Can you drive a car with your legs crossed? Left foot throttle and right foot clutch?
It is possible but very difficult.
With your strong grip, you are making golf more difficult like trying to drive a car with your legs crossed
Try and get your grip more neutral.
The first thing to expect is you will hit it right until you learn to release your hands.
It will feel uncomfortable at first but soon it will feel ok.
HTH :D

Biffa, I am the same as you. I have a strong grip but open the club face up or play the ball further back in my stance to compensate this. I had a lesson with the pro who gave me a natural grip and as Bob said everything was high right, guess it does take time. The Pro also tried to move the ball real forward and it just didnt feel right for me, so back to my strong grip but better ball striking.

hope you get it sorted mate, if it's any help I was gripping too hard with my left and helped a little when i just squeeze like a toothpaste tube(I got that from a GM video) :)
