Apart from the obvious.

One my PPs is left-handed but plays right-handed, as do I.

He came out with a comment the other day that it would be a good idea to carry a left-handed club for those occasions when the ball is virtually unplayable right-handed, e.g. up against a bush or a tree.

I thought it was a great suggestion!

Does anyone do this, and if so, which club? Or is just a waste of a club?

I did at one stage as I can sometimes hit a reasonable shot left handed.
It just wasn't worth it in the end for the so few occasions it was required.
To be honest, turning a wedge upside down does the trick just as well.

Or if that feels too awkward, simply hitting it (or a lower lofted club) left-handed! I remember using a mate's Ping Eye-2 1 or 2 iron, that I'd borrowed to try, left-handed from beside a tree (I can remember the hole!) and it went almost as well as right-handed!

Do you mean with the back of the club?

Yes! I certainly find that easier than inverting an iron!

Back of Putter is indeed another option that works if space is an issue - and Putter design allows.

I've thought about it, because I used to bat left handed at cricket, and find chipping much easier left-handed, although I am generally right handed and play golf right-handed. The problem is, which left handed club do I choose, and what right handed club do I leave out?

I get my self in enough bother playing right handed in the first place so all hell would break loose left handed. To be honest I normally just find a away to get it out enough so I can get a swing on it

I did a while back, being a lefty as well, but I got accused of cheating by lots of people who did not know the rules, I carried a 7 iron and could get around 130 out of it,but a wedge my have been a better option. If you have space try it.

I had a cheap 'chipper' club for a while that was double sided with grooves on both sides (not sure if this is legal now I think about it - probably is) but never used the LH side of it and wasn't much good with it right handed so it was a waste of a club. All mine are now RH clubs.

There is a right-handed bloke at our place who putts left-handed and has started (quite successfully) chipping and pitching LH too. I'm not sure if he's slowly becoming left-handed but doesn't like to admit it or (as he states) the left-handedness on shorter shots just works for him.

I added a left handed 7 iron (£10 from eBay) last year after several instances of ending up against a tree and having to chop it out with the back of my 5 iron. (I've never been comfortable trying to hit a club "upside down" - where the toe points at the ground).
But I can't hit it properly with a full swing - just use a chipping action to knock the ball back into play.

It gets used maybe once every 10 rounds or so, but I only had 12 clubs in the bag anyway, so it didn't displace anything else.

It was my suggestion :) and at the minute I could easily leave my driver or 3w out of the bag and put a LH 9 iron in there. Maybe once I get better and don't keep putting myself into awkward positions I could ditch the LH club.

I am also tempted to try putting left handed as I couldn't do any worse!
