Was talking about this with my wife today and we came up with this proposal.
At the conclusion of play, instead of throwing the ball into the crowd, the Champion hands the ball used to hole the final putt to the R&A. The R&A auction it in a nice presentation case with a certificate of authenticity and the proceeds go the Champion's choice of charity.
That would be a nice touch I think.

Cracking idea. You might need to punt that to the R&A
a grand idea indeed. Although as they become more common for want of a better word, I'd imagine their auction value would fall. I'd also suggest the winning bidder pick the charity. People bid more generally for a cause that they're interested in.
