Anybody want to buy a second hand RZN ball used by a wee lad from Norn Iron

I would rather the ball had been given to a kid but as it stands, if people are prepared to pay that sort of money then why not. I would hope the seller puts the cash to good use but I guess we'll never kow

The guy who got the ball has already been paid after being approached by the seller which is Green Jacket Auctions. They tracked him down and acquired it from him.

Now if I had been thrown the ball I wouldn't intend to sell it but if a someone offered me a tempting sum I'd be hard pushed to say no. Surely better they tracked down an adult rather than a kid and his folks, in which case the result is likely to have been the same anyway.

Was talking about this with my wife today and we came up with this proposal.

At the conclusion of play, instead of throwing the ball into the crowd, the Champion hands the ball used to hole the final putt to the R&A. The R&A auction it in a nice presentation case with a certificate of authenticity and the proceeds go the Champion's choice of charity.

That would be a nice touch I think.

If ever there was a need for a like button. Great idea.

The only issue I have with this is that anyone would talk to their wife?

I've got an old Dunlop DDH I found in a ditch with "IW" written on it, that must have once belonged to Ian Woosnam?

(Although if you turn the ball the other way up it becomes "MI" so there's an element of doubt and that prevents me from listing it on ebay)

Cracking idea. You might need to punt that to the R&A

a grand idea indeed. Although as they become more common for want of a better word, I'd imagine their auction value would fall. I'd also suggest the winning bidder pick the charity. People bid more generally for a cause that they're interested in.
