Anybody here still play

Was still using persimmon 1w and 3w for my odd game (a couple of times a year) right up to about 3 years ago.

Still got them under the stairs, should take them up to the course for a laugh one evening in the summer!

A mate of mine still use's an old Ping Eye 2,5 wood. He's a 7 handicapper and just likes the feel of the club,he's tried numerous modern fairways over the years, but keeps going back to the Ping.

Still got my first set of woods.
Ping Eye 2's, 5 wood, 3 wood & driver.....all in good nick except they may need re-gripping.
Saw a set on eBay last year. Bloke wanted £299.00 for the set! His were mint though.
Got to be honest, they do make a lovely noise when struck well.

Slime.

I had an old persimmon going back a while now, but there was something
different about the Wooden clubs, they felt more solid and easier to hit than
the new modern drivers in my opinion. Less movement through the back swing.

It probably had a steel shaft.

I used a number of persimmon drivers over the years. I can't imagine how anyone finds a persimmon/balata combination easier to flight than a modern driver. Unless you have a very unsuitable modern driver.

Never used or even held one even though I am 54 but I've only been playing 3 years. Be nice to try one. I did see some in a charity shop one day but wasn't tempted to buy them.

I used to love mine. While at College many years ago, spent £20 on some bats and a bag.... Can't remember the make but they consisted of

1,3,5 Woods, Wooden head, Steel Shaft, with black tape carefully wound round to protect, and leather handgrips.
3-sw Irons, Solid Cast heads, steel shaft, and leather handgrips.
putter, old skool, again solid cast head and steel shaft, and leather handgrip.

Old stiff, brown leather bag, with wooden base to it.

They were cracking clubs. Used to jar your hand if you hit wrong with the long irons. And if the grips got wet there was no stopping the club opening its face at ball contact.

Know that my dad has an old wooden headed club at the back of his shed - think i'll take one down the range and have a bash - it will make my 460 large headed TM Burner look MASSIVE and may even make it easier to hit!
