Mrs Sev112 looking for new(ish) car - we looked at loads today, but the Pug 206 (post 2008) looks to fit teh bill and price, and is bigger than teh odl 206s
And seeing as my £400 174,000 old 306 that i bought 4 years ago is still (fingers crossed) running strong, i am quite tempted

Anyone got one - anyone know whether they have any "design flaws" ?

don`t wish to put the jitters up u , but i used to work with a p/t fireman and he told me that the majority of fatal car crashes he attended it was a peugeot model ...he said they crumple like coke cans.. maybe the more modern models are better.. not sure ! just a thought ....

It was a very common Learner Car - and they didn't last very long. I know we give the cars a good pounding but within 6 months most Instructors I know who had one were complaining.
Driving position on the early 206 was dreadful, not sure about the newer ones. And if you're tall they're a nightmare!

As with all cars there are good and bad. My daughter has an 03 plate 1.4 and we have never had a problem with it.

The Fiesta is probably a better all round car but you pay for that with better resale prices - horses for courses.

The comment about peugeot models crumpling is misleading - 'my mate who is a firefighter said' - for safety look at the NCAP ratings, modern cars are designed to crumple to dissipate the energy in a collision, a theme pioneered by Volvo which they all follow - I suggest if safety is a major consideration avoid small Korean cars.

Any views on a Peugeots 206

Here's a nice view from a peugeot 206

I think this is the old 106 model.

I have a couple of friends who used to be A&E doctors and they said the exact same thing, but specified the model as the 106.

Nope, he's right with the 206. My mate's a Bobby and made his wife get rid of her 206 because of the same reason.

In regard to my past experience with a Peugeot my advice is don't touch them with a barge pole. Save yourself alot of hassle and buy something else - anything else!

Seats are good - or spend a bit more on a jap mobile (honda, mazda etc) probably be a saving down the line.

Guys anything said in these quotes is my mate said. Car safety is taken very seriously by manufacturers - and the only true measures can be done using highly sensitive measuring devices i.e. Crash Test Dummies (not the band). The results for all cars on the road in the EU are generally published for comparison on the 206 see the link:

For a car designed in 2000 it compares favourably with the other small hatches of the time, better than the Fiesta in fact,so to base buying a car on what someones mate has said regarding safety is illogical.

Generally anything French is a minefield.

Take a look at the Seat Ibiza's. Lovely little cars.

Only your opinion - we have 3 french cars, 2 peugeots, and a Clio. None have been any trouble - Don't ask me to recommend a Ford because I have had 3 and all were SH*T. If you want me to recommend anything - Skoda Fabia if you can find a decent one - but not much Va Va Voom.

I get what you're saying, but I would personally use both your figures and my friend's (or someone else's) personal, 1st hand experience of being 1st police response on RTI sites before making an informed decision. He has no reason to lie and the fact he went out of his way to pay out more money to get rid of it and buy a safer car isn't something he would have done on a whim...Especially when they were planning to have children at the time and could have done without the cost.

But I agree that anything like buying should be researched in full before making such a huge purchase anyway.

But the OP did come on here asking for views on them (presumably those who have had 1st hand experience, not views from websites and car magazines)..Which is what we've given him.

The thing with any of the crash test data is that it is based on an unrealistic scenario. Most accidents don't involve driving head on into a block of concrete. Most drivers swerve, to try to avoid having the hit in the first place. Cars are made to pass safety tests. These don't necessarily make them safe in other ways. You can stand on a bog roll tube, but turn it on it's side, and you squash it flat.

Same deal with fuel consumption. Figures of economy at 55 mph get maximised, often to the detriment of achieveable mileage savings in real life driving.

No, what he got was people saying my mate this and my mate that.

I had a 306 and it was the best small car I had should have kept it really.
