Any recommendations where to stay near Saunton in August?

So I'm playing in the EGU Senior Amateur Southern Open at Saunton on Thu/Fri 27-28th Aug.

Managed to convince HID that it would be a good idea to combine this with a week away in North Devon....thinking Croyde Bay or something similar. Looking at the week Sat 22nd Aug.

Anyone got any good suggestions for reasonably priced holiday accommodation? There's myself, the wife and our 12 year old daughter.

I know the area quite well Rick and at that time of the year it will be tough most
would have booked for the season already.
Have you looked at the Saunton Hotel itself.
You also have the Barnstaple Motel about 5 miles away.

Do you want a Caddie for one of the days?
Not a proper one though just me:)

Not sure about the caddy situation..... If others have one then it would be great, but I don't want to be the only one to have a caddy. I'll see if I can find out.
 
We always stay at the Saunton Sands Hotel. Just up the road from the Club. I magine it might be quite pricey in August, but you could always stay there, and the girls could camp on the beach.:)

Like your style Rich......cheapest room to sleep 3 that week is £3,360 :eek:
That's a lot for 1 week in Devon!

Anyhow, I think I've managed to book a nice cottage in Appledore for around £600......just waiting for the owner confirmation........Its a quaint little fishing village that will make a nice base for the week.....just checking out the Royal North Devon Golf Club website......looks like there are comps there as well that week.......:whistle:

If you have a half day to spare you could always pop down to south Devon for a knock on my track. There's a beach nearby for the wife and daughter.

I see there an individual open on the Wednesday.
I would be up for that a nice warm up for Thurs and Friday
 
Appledore really is a lovely quaint little place, just be aware that it's a bit of a drive round to Saunton. Traffic can be quite heavy through the traffic lights in Braunton so allow plenty of time :thup:
 
I'd recommend a cottage, but there is one good website, that is normally cheaper than the normal ones like Sykes, Hoseasons etc called owners direct.

Does what it says on the tin.:thup:

Better value...yes.....

Keeping HID onside....not so sure given that it now looks like rounds are on the cards with Twire and Pokerjoke as well as the 2 comp rounds!

Might need to upgrade to a cottage that accepts pets......at least it will have a doghouse for me!!

My brother tried that once when he was an instructor at Fremington camp. and lived a Chivner. How we laughed.

On a seriouse note, you need to allow yourself a good hour to get to Saunton from Appledore. Braunton is a nightmare that time of the year. If you fancy a whack at Libbaton at any time just give me a PM.
