Hi,

one of my friends has booked us to play The National Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa , on the Hotchkin and Bracken courses. Playing in March.

Wondering if anyone else has played it and what there views are ?

Cheers

Not played them but it is where they have the finals of the EGU medal which a junior from Royal Ascot won in 2007. He told me they were pretty good courses. Tight but fair but the bunkers were pretty deep and the rough even just off the fairway was thick. I've seen it on the Sky coverage of the event and it looks pretty decent

Hi Midnight

Yes i have played both courses at Woodall spa is the home of the English Golf Union the Hotchkin is a healthland course that you will not be disapointed with. Some Very deep bunkers and lots of bracken. Also you will find that there are a few longish carries off the tee's. Buy a course planner dont try to be to clever it's the type of course that needs good management. You will never think your playing the same hole twice each hole is very different. first hole is a gentle par four.

The Bracken is a parkland course much newer than the Hotchkin lots of bunkers in front of the greens so make sure you have your yardages right.

They have a nice range and a friendly club house the village has some nice Pubs and Bars and a good indian eat-in.

I am sure you will enjoy your self. I did several times.

Very very well respected Courses I understand, some of our Juniors had a match down there last summer and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Dont let that fool you, they are all Single stats boys. :)

I would think you'll need your AAA game with you .......

Enjoy.

Agree with all the comments. The Hotckin regularly features in magazines Top 10? 50? 100? courses and is a great heathland course. Plenty of bracken and heather and lots of deep bunkers.
Plot you way around rather than "gripping and ripping" and you'll score better.
I played reasonably well when i went there but absolutely loved the course.
The Bracken is one of those "second courses" that stellar courses tend to have attached. It is a reasonable test and in good condition in its own right but overshadowed by its prettier, more talented sister!
Enjoy.

Hotchkin is my favourite golf course of all the ones I have played so far. The holes get prettier as you go round, and it is a stern test of golf. I loved it.

You need your driving boots on and you need to stay out of the bunkers too.

Have visited Woodhall for the last 21yrs and can honestly say that i never tire of playing it. Its a stunning course that has everything that you could ever need to test your game. The best inland course in the uk by far. You will enjoy your day, no doubt about that, just stay out of the bunkers.

Hi,

Yes that is the deal we booked, I looked at it and thought a night including food in a posh hotel and 2 rounds on a decent course was worth the money.

If I can afford it I would like to play 2 very good courses a year.

However it may all change if everything goes wrong on the day, but I am sure as normal there will always be that one good shot that brings you back.

Can't remember which one I stayed in...Petwood possibly?but it had a snooker room and the night man supplied us drink till 4.30am so needless to say the bracken wasn't my best ound ever.
