Perhaps golf isn't the right game for him. If I was told that all I could use was a broken walking stick, I would still enjoy the game, and just get on with it.

he was a good player, got the yips bad.
can't have been nice being a cat1 player that never missed a fairway or green then 3 or 4 putting on every hole, thats not fun. not seen him for a while so maybe he's already packed in

Sad story, wish I had an answer to the problem. That said, I would never had banned in the first place. I was told the other day that many years ago there were putters that were swung from between your legs. These were also meant to make putting to easy, so were banned.
