Hi all

As with many people I'm sure we're all finding small DIY jobs.... So I need some advice.

I'm in a rented house and my garden is absolutely rife with mares tail which is playing havoc with a small area of paving . I'm finally staying on top of the weed but do need to tidy up an area of approx 1.5m sq.

I've read up on dry grouting. Ready mix grouting. Adding colours etc etc so my DIY bodge idea is to buy a 2kg bag of ready mix stuff.... Clear out the gaps a bit between the stones and then literally add this mix in until it's flat between the stones.

Any hints/tips/do's/don'ts? It's only a small area so it can't be that hard....... Can it?

Cheers all ?

Adam

I'd clear all the existing mortar/grouting. Leaving bit of old stuff will make it look untidy and 'bitty'. And clear to more than 1" depth. With the old crazy paving being grey, I wouldn't use a coloured grout.

If it were me, and remembering its a rented property, I would clean the loose stuff away, spray with weed killer over those gaps, then probably get some premixed dry stuff and sweep it into the gaps.

IMO wet does a better job but as it's a rented property, dry is usually much easier and quicker. Remember to cover if it is going to rain.

Thanks for the tips.... I've ordered some geomix.... Looks exactly the right kind of stuff for someone of my skill level. It's seems preparation is the key to getting the job done.
