Hi. I've been asked to consider taking this role on for 2012. Just for the Ladies Sections (Ladies, Seniors, Juniors)...

I've seen the software for entering results etc which isn't too scary but wondered if anyone out there has done/does the role at their club and if it's more of a pain in the proverbial than it first appears?

I am very interested in the whole handicapping system - anything to do with golf in fact so that is a reason for saying yes. It would also mean I can't be asked to do any other roles as I keep saying no and am beginning to feel rude

Cheers, Amanda

If you're interested go for it :) to be asked must mean you're a good active member of your club so go for it :)

Had a spell in the past, really enjoyed it and currently involved in match side of things. Biggest problem is that you cannot get peace on the course, people feel they can approach you mid round to ask about something that can only be sorted from your office, didn't mind at first, but eventually had to politely asked them to wait until i was in the clubhouse as i was playing golf as they were. Take the time to get used to the software, it's vital you know it well, also it's a bit time consuming, so expect some grief at home from time to time. Go on, take the post you'll love it.:)

Did it for a number of years, and loved it. Hopefully it will be well structured at your club as it does take up a fair bit of time.

If anyone approaches you on the course ask them to either wait for you to finish your round or put it in writing. I found the "put it in writing" stopped an awful lot of interference once the members got used to, "I'm not getting involved in anything when I'm out on the course."

Thanks - no horror stories then. I was asked because it seems I'm the only person to ever ask about CSS etc and show an interest so wouldn't expect any hassles on the course. Plus I'm up there a lot and play in most of the competitions (NOT the seniors yet though)! I'm not exactly the shy retiring type either so my head is above tha parapet hence being asked twice to be vice...

I've given a provisional yes which probably means yes !!

Did it for a number of years, it was ok, did my bit for the club and with the software it is fairly painless. I played around with the many statistical tools on there which can be quite interesting in an anorakish kind of way!
If you don't know the answer to any of the likely myriad of questions and ruling decisions you'll be quizzed about dont BS anyone, go away and get a referral from your golf union and/or the 'decisions on the rules of golf' book.
You will upset the odd person when you DQ them for unsigned cards or too low a score entered so be thick skinned about it and stick to your guns.

Good luck.

Go for it Amanda. All clubs need people with enthusiasm, and it is nice to give something back when you are having such a good time at your club.

I agree and took the press officer role a while back and have enjoyed getting some good stories in the local papers as well as the usual list of results which are a big yawn for most readers.

Or just ask on here in the expert section.

Go for it Amanda. You sound like the sort of person who wold inject some enthusiasm into any club. You could also tweak a few of the bandits handicaps?

Ahh thanks and yes enthusiasm abounds in me for this beautiful game and all (mostly all) aspects of it. I fear I might be considered said bandit having shot another gross 76 today (par 72)
