any gillingham golf club members ?

It's fairly close to my new home and it seems to have a good proffessional set up for only £850 a year it seems a bargain. Places like cobham and mid kent have a long waiting list and cost a lot more also i like to pratice a fair bit and it has a small pratice area.

Are you in that area ?

Before you commit, get a courtesy round on each and have a look. Also, have a look at Rochester and Cobham.

And don't just allow the price to affect your judgement. You tend to get what you pay for ........

I was about to suggest Wrotham Heath.

Redlibbets (http://www.redlibbets.co.uk/) is decent too

I was a member at Redlibbets for many years.
The course lay out is great and the practice facilities (range and short game area) are very good.
Its a shame the greens are so ropey.
They kept promising for years they'd get them better but they never did, so I left .

I think all courses have their + and - . I liked that West Malling has 2 courses, but didn't like that it felt a bit cramped (but my boss is a member there and he loves the place), its a decent test.

They are quite flexible with their membership also. They do a deal for £599 per year (full 7 day membership) if 4 of you join together. When we were looking at joining it was just me and a mate...but they offered to stick us with another pair to create the 4 ball. They really did bend over backwards for us to join. The only reason we didn't join is that it would have been too long a journey for our other mates to come play with us.

Loveley club house too.

Didnt they lose some land off one of the courses, where it went over the road and then came back.

I heard they were cramming the lost holes back on the other side so guess its going to a bit more 'crammed'

Have a look at the card to see if you can see some short par 4's on the back 9, that'll be the give away.

Rochester and cobham the best course mentioned by far IMO, also has excellent practise facilities with a range and short game area etc. however, will be most expensive and is a 'proper' big golf club, so you get some of the negatives that go with that (some snooties, some politics etc etc)
Wrotham heath the pick of the rest mentioned, very friendly smaller club and decent track. Looking for new members, but not exactly on the doorstep.
Sittingbourne and milton not mentioned, decent enough course, cheap and friendly. Not a patch on the other 2, but better for the higher handicap perhaps.
Would not touch red libbets. Not a members course, so no say on course condition for members. Nice layout, terrible greens a lot of the time.

If you want the best course in your area, I would go rochester and cobham IMO.

I played Gillingham a couple of times a few years ago, not a long course as seem it is crammed into the middle of a number of houses. You have to cross the road after about the 3rd and to play the last.

I would look at Wrotham heath if you want a Private club or Southern valley if not.

I have just had a look a wrotham heath gc and it seems like a great place so iv fired off a email with a couple of questions. Its just in my budget and its only a 20 min drive from my house also it has rave reviews :)

so hopefully i will hear back shortly.

Thanks for the help you have changed my mind completely
