any 'Game Golf' users on here?

Hi Simon,

I been using GAME GOLF for the past 3 months and it's awesome. I didn't play golf until I got the unit and it really has helped me to improve and enjoy the game. Out on the course I just play golf and the fun for me happens when I get home. I had no clue how far I could hit the ball with each club in my bag and now I have my exact averages for every club.

Also, the advanced analysis feature told me that I was hitting my club way right way too often so when I get to the Driving Range every week I know exactly what I need to work on.

The new Challenges are very cool too. Hopefully a few more people will join the discussion here and we could create our very own Golf Monthly Challenge :)

I'm really tempted too and think its only a matter of time before I commit. £160 on amazon at the moment. Seems like a steal for that kind of technology.

I understand the concept that you scan each club before each shot but what happens when you use a 7 iron for a little bump and run when just off the green. Will that not totally confuse the stats and therefore deem club averages useless.

For working out club distances it is not much use. If you went out one day and hit 4 7i all into a strong breeze your average is probably going to be down by 20 yards.

That MA backs up my theory that this system my not be as good as people perceive.

Me (Mike Harris) and GM technical Editor Paul O'Hagan are both using Game Golf - absolutely love it

I did a video review last week when we were club testing at Stoke Park - hopefully will be edited in the next few days

I'm really struggling with my game and this has given me real insight into the areas I need to work on most and will be realy useful to show my pro pre-lessons so he can get a better understanding of how I'm playing on course because as we all know the difference between how you hit it on the range (where the vast majority of lessons are conducted) and course can be very dfifferent

the bump and run shot affecting averages isnt really issue as GG says 'the system edits out punch shots and poorly hit shots' from this data - I can verfity it hasnt added some of my shockers to my overall stats and that while all my little greenside bump and runs/nudges with my go to 8 iron show on the charts but dont think they are affecting my average

Simon/David/any other Game Golfers let us know your usernames and we'll follow you

Not quite so folks. Two factors at play - firstly there is a threshold in the software that excludes v.short shots and there is going to be a backup 'ignore shot for stats button'. Secondly the software presents median rather than average data so once you have a reasonable number of shots recorded with a particular club things like wind effects etc really do seem to wash out in practice.

Hope this helps, no affiliation just I am really enjoying mine!

A friend of mine is using one and he also works for a technology company and loves it. He spends a fortune on various techy gadgets as well as Muira clubs etc....He absolutely loves it and rates it although we rolled around laughing  when he claimed he was averaging over 250 with his drives..... when we he's one the shortest of the group.....

Maybe if my golf game improves beyond this years debacle, I may look into it. Certainly sounds interesting. Unless GM want to lend me one for long term use over the winter etc....

Erm. You needed the advanced analysis feature to tell you that you were hitting the ball right too often?

This looks suspiciously like the work of a PR department....

Have to say I thought the exact same thing. If he didn't play golf until he'd used it how does he know its helped him improve?

That said I am sorely tempted...:D

Another question, how does it cope if you launch one OOB, or lose one in the cabbage and have to go back and play another.
And does it do your putter as well, obviously distance doesn't need recording but amount of putts is always useful.

Im not really buying into this concept much either and it just looks like another gimmick to me that is praying on the golfers never ending struggle to knock a few shots off his handicap. I do not need software to tell me that I hit 50% of my drives into the crap on the left today as it is always my bad shot with the longer clubs. This system is not going to tell me why and how to rectify a problem I was having of the course. Now having my round on screen to watch, so I can analyse for any signs I am starting to swing out to in, (which by the way is the cause of this pulled shot) then that would be very useful.

if people are enjoying it then I can't knock them, is it going to knock shots off your handicap, I do no think so. Plenty of blokes on here got to cat1 without the use of it and a lot of them did it before DMDs as they just used their eye ball and paced their distance from the 150 yard marker.

at the best part of £200 I would prefer to spend that on decent coach and learn to play better golf. At the end of the day you can have all the stats you want, but if you still spray the ball all over the course then what use are they?

nowt wrong with a bit of tech Adey, you turning into a miserable sod since moving over there? ;)

I can see its benefits or even as something for a bit of fun and banter, if you play regular enough and like to look at your rounds afterwards then why not. I can think of worse things to waste a couple of ton on like a couple of nights out on the lash or a new miracle driver :)

might well get this next year aswell as a skypro

You add penalty shots (and can indeed add a real shot if you forgot to tap the club to the device at any point) when you download your round and 'sign' it

there's some good putting data on there - putts per hole, percentages of 1, 2, 3, and more putts and then you can dice the data by date or course
