Any cheap desktop deals around

ebuyer.com have good number of desktops under £200 which would suit your needs and decent sized monitors for under £100.

Would this Zoostorm one be worth a shot for £199. Think my need for a new one is getting dire as the PC this morning has somehow partly reset itself. Luckily I'd backed up all photo's the other week but hadn't sorted through emails and they all appear to have gone.

For shopping online and emails, its perfect. Much more than that and it would struggle though.

Whatever you do dont go for anything that says Celeron
at a minimum look for an intel I3 or I5 3xxx (3rd Generation)or 4xxx processor (4th Generation), 3rd generation will be cheaper, but 4th will be faster and last longer.

Do you need to factor in a screen? Office? a 21 inch screen from Ebuyer will set you back about £90. Office 2013 home & student (word Excel, Powerpoint) will cost £95 from Amazon or you can use Open Office which is free.

dare I mention a backup drive too

Ker-ching

Most desktop boxes will come with a wired usb mouse and Keyboard

No!

Very strange mix for such a weak processor!

Guys youre missing the point. If a tablet with a crap low power soc dual core cpu can do what is needed, that pc will do super fine. No point spending more than is necessary. I am normally one for haveing nice specs etc but honestly. If the needs ever change there are plenty of upgrades available rather than spending on a new one too.

While I appreciate that it might currently do the job - and it's actually a little more powerful than the one in the laptop I'm currently using - there will come a time in the very near future that it will be a) Used for considerably more than 'currently', even with the best will in the world and current one used simply as specified and b) that CPU is very much out of balance with the rest of the spec, so will be a bottleneck for any 'maintenance' type activity.

It's simply not worth spending a decent chunk of wedge for a 'bottom of the range' hardware and 'top of the range' software! Much better to spend a small (or even decent) amount more on CPU and a bit less on (very easily replaceable) accessories/software! I wouldn't recommend a top of the range box either btw! But somewhere in between should provide best value for the functions required. In this case, I'd suggest going up a couple of steps in the CPU!

We'll agree to differ. All i will say is that these pcs are made for this sort of user. In my companies, i buy a mininum of core i3 powered machines and probooks bacause they are used for 9 hours a day with at least 4 apps open at any time. For a pc that will have a browser, anti virus and maybe office, you dont need higher spec parts.

Since when is 1Tb Disk Drive appropriate for a 'browsing, online shopping and emails' user!

W8 is debatable, but ya takes what yer given - and 'Classic' works pretty well

As I posted...Out of balance! Shrink the HDD size; Up the processor power for a few quid more (199 is a psychological price pointso it will really only be a few - like 219) and Robert's yer Mum's brother.

Btw. Ebuyer has a pretty similar spec box for considerably less and better spec-ed ones for less too!

What about this one then for the same price. My current Mesh PC (think it's nine years old) only has 1GB ram with an AMD 64 processor. Currently on XP Pro. Don't need a monitor and have a Seagate back up thingy.
