I scored 39 points today, with a horrid over the top swing. So far this year I have lost 50 yards + on my drives and I have lost at least an irons worth of distance.

Why am I getting better and dropping shots with a swing that is technically wrong and horrid?

Because you are getting consistent with that swing ;)

I could list you a whole load of pro's who earn a lot of money with "technically wrong" swings but the thing you need to understand about the golf swing is that as long as you deliver the club face to the ball consistently in a position that hits the ball relatively straight (and by straight I mean that it lands in\near the fairway or green) , it doesn't matter what happens or what it looks like before it gets there.

To me any swing that allows you to score well is not technically wrong. Look on the scorecard. I think the issue is if you will improve (and indeed if you want to improve so much that it will mean rebuilding your swing) if you continue to using your existing swing.

The reason your improving is because you have the added motivation of potentially getting beaten by a girl in the H4H Challenge

Because your now playing with feel and your own swing.
