Just back from a trip to East Lothian (I've put down the details elsewhere).

Two things that made it so much better, that only a forum could do :

1. Loads of really useful advice from people familiar with the area that would be hard to get from 'official' sources

2. We were lucky enough to be hosted by a forum member at Dunbar (Thommo21). A really generous offer that really added to our hols. Friendly chat, obvious pride in his course and all round good golfer. Thanks, Harvey.

My faith in humanity has moved upwards. I must make sure to go nowhere near any football or referendum threads for a few days to maintain the inner glow....

Without doubt for me this is the best part of this forum. Have met and played with such a variety of people at a variety of courses, plenty opportunities that wouldnt have arisen if not on here.

Yup felt exactly the same when we went to Northumberland and met up with MIB, Bezerk, Heavy grebo and others.

you get a good idea of what they are like by the way they write.

I disagree a little bit , I think you often get very little insight into who you are going to meet just by what's written.

I've met shed loads of forummers on the other GM, it's only after you meet up, get bladdered and play golf together do you sometimes really understand the humour and light heartedness of the posts that can seem a bit strange if you've never met the individual.

I'd agree, in most respects. I've met quite a lot of forumers now. Those whose writing styles I liked turned out to be even nicer than I imagined.

Most of those who I thought I'd be wary of, I got on really well with.

In fact, there's only one forum user that I have always thought was a complete and utter [insert adjective] that has proven themselves so.

I did buy you a beer though:whistle:

Such paranoia! :D

In fairness, and in keeping with the thread:

rosecott and Stu are the best examples of how the forum works amazingly.

The former is a dry-witted bugger with a complete love of golf, who calls a spade a knob and is an all-round good man. A brilliant FC.

I put a cheeky request on the forum one time for a game (en-route to Hillside) and Stu got me on cheap at his course, treated a stranger like a friend, and gave me a good laugh for 18 holes.

Vive la GM.

Did you get your bear hug from him? :D

I've met tonnes of forumers now and can't think of any I wouldn't play golf with, many I now call firm friends and hear from regularly outwith the forum. This forum is at its best when people meet to play golf, it raises its ugly heard when people want to discuss rules, cheating, football, politics etc. These topics bring the wrong side out of many good people unfortunately.

You are spot on there Val but isn't it funny how all the keyboard warriors turn out to be completely different in the real world :D

The real keyboard warriors don't/won't attend a meet even if it's on their doorstep.

Very true bud, it surprises me how many really love their golf but won't show their faces at meets even if less than an hour away.

Keep it about playing golf and this forum will always thrive.
