Today the 1st tee was so busy when i turned up, the practice range was chokka and i thought "sod it", and went to the driving range, which is very unlike me.

It's an American Golf, and i was having a wee browse before the range when the AG sales cretin kindly asks me if he can help with anything. Now apart from my baldness, i couldn't think of anything, until he pointed out my faded 909 d3. "Try this" says the kind young oik as he tapes up a 910 d3 and hands it to me. So off i trotted with my hundred balls (still bald unfortunately).

I hit 50 odd wedges and 9 irons then remembered the new toy was sitting there. I wasn't bothered about a new driver, as i like my 909. It goes down the middle more often than not. So i hit 10 with that. Then i picked up the 910 to batter a few out of curiosity.

In the space of one swing i nearly took the car to the Cheque centre to exchange it for some 910 tokens. The first one flew 10 yards past my "old" driver with a flight more penetrating than Rod Stewart in a Swedish Brothel. The second one went further. I honestly can't believe the difference a shaft makes. It was like i had a new swing. Instead of my usual low riser, this thing boomed like an arrow through the air, laughing at my previous drives as it passed them.

this led to me going back into the shop and getting an AP2 6 iron with a stiff shaft to try out. My current clubs are now 16 year old blades with reg shafts, and i love them. I hit my own 5 iron for comparison, then had a go with the AP2. Out hit my "old" 5 iron by 20 yards, with a 6 iron. It was so good it felt like i was having an affair with Jolie hersel, especially as the boss never knew what i was up to. I mis hit a few and couldn't beleive the distance on them, if i mis hit my own clubs i drop 20 yards easy.

So now i'm accidentally booked in for a proper custom fit next Sunday. If she founds out, this is an ex forum member wishing you all well

Fell to the old " can I help you routine " eh?

You are your own worst enemy you know!

Still it's always nice to have some new stuff

Hawkeye went to Titleist last week and has had a whole gear makeover. HID had agreed a budget but he exceeded it with ease and is still allowed out to play so I wouldn't worry. Its great when you find some new gear that you love but I'm guessing it was just a case of your old faithfuls just being a bit tired, especially in the shaft. I hope the missus will be gentle with you when she finds out. If not - its been fun knowing you onhere

A bit like yesterday, arrived at 8am and it was barely light, and the first tee was like Central Station !!
I take it everyone who couldn't play went to practice area instead.
Seems like a worthwhile visit to range though.

Alan, when i arrived there were at least 20 folk at the first, then 4 on the practice ground. Haven't actually managed a round on Bogside since October now, although have played a lot elsewhere.

i'm picking my moment, the boss is feeling guilty about us having to cancel our holiday, so a few well timed tears on my part and i'll have those AP2's

Great post!

If you want to save some $$ I have a set of AP2's (the original forged ones) that might be going cheap if the shaft suits you and you're not bothered about buying brand spankers.

thanks for the offer on the Ap2's but i'm going to get properly fitted, not at AG obviously! It's my wee treat, that is until the wife finds out and John Wayne Bobbits me.
