I played 1st round of the county seniors championship yesterday. The group in front of us were shocking, they had 4 or 5 clear cut opportunities to call us through. 5 hours to get round a 6000 yard course :o

Unbelievably, they then called us through half way down the 17th fairway!! I swear to God, if I'd had a gun in my bag I would up on 3 murder charges this morning. I handed my card in and told the organiser that I wouldn't be back today to go through that again

that's old geezers for you.

Some people just want to run around and just whine all the time which effects their game instead of enjoying their time out on the golf course.

I take it you let it all get in your head and didn't play well.

I bet if you were in the lead you would play today.

You hardly have to run around to get round in under 5 hours though do you. I have no problem with people taking as long as they want but its basic manners to let anyone faster through.

I bet you I wouldn't. I play golf for enjoyment and hanging around for 5 hours while 3 guys in front of you dick about is not my idea of enjoyment, especially when I have had to use up a day's holiday.

Some players would rather die than let someone through. No need for it. I'd be the same... go and play somewhere else

Got a guy joined our group. (mate of a mate) Nice chap, but not sure where he learnt his golf...he's getting called Duracell. He thinks its cos he's ginger... but it's because he's "Never Ready!" Every slowing down device know to man he uses... iron covers, hide scorecard in deep pocket, pencil hidden in a different pocket.... :D Suggest we let someone through he foams at the mouth. Mention it and oooh... not me gov.

Was there no county officials about to speed up play
They are at my county events also told before teeing off that your round is expected to be complete under 3 hours 45mins or they will be penalties

we played the other day and the slow group in front sat down at the half way houses for a sausage roll. we walked from the 9th to the tenth when all hell broke out!!!!

Yes, we spoke to one of them and he said he had given up asking people to speed up because some of them got abusive

To pass the time, I took a picture on the 11th tee that said you should take 2hrs 5mins to this point. We took 2hrs 50

Seriously Gordon abusive?
If he was an official County official and he conducted himself professionally I would suggest 2 things should of happened.

He should have gone to the top official on the day and reported the abuse.
And the culprits should have been thrown out of the comp.

Of course unless you weren't there and only went on what the official said.

If he was not professional and asked in the wrong manner and maybe got a bit uppity himself then he might have got some abuse.

We used to have an official at Vivary Park a municipal and all sorts of people went to play, however I don't believe he was ever abused because he always came across so sincere.

5hrs is very slow and yes can be a pain I agree with that.

I must admit one of my favourite rounds was about 5 hrs at a HFH day,the company was cracking we just had a laugh all the way around, some make a long round fun some don't enjoy it.

You're right Tony, I wasn't there but just repeating what the official said to me.

Sounds about right for a county comp - we played in the county Foursomes - the pair we were playing with were shockingly slow so I asked the county official marshal if he would mind requesting they picked up the pace as we had lost 3 holes - he said " we don't worry about pace of play " it was embarrassing- worse was the group behind lost two holes on us ! 5 hours for Foursomes
