Playing a long par 4 into wind in a match this morning, after a good drive and a reasonable second shot with a hybrid, I was about 100 yards short of the green. Decided that with the into wind component I needed a 9 iron. Hit what felt like a very sweet shot, only to see it land 20 yards short. Then found I had used my gap wedge by mistake! I was almost sure that I had pulled my 9-iron out of my bag. :o

If you were a dog you'd be put down

I did the same thing the other day with 2 of my wedges!

My partner last week flushed an 8 iron to our 9th green only to see it land 20 yards short. Then he discovered that his GPS watch was still on the 8th hole.

My GPS watch is very good at doing that sort of thing, especially if we are playing off the forward tees. I always check the hole number as well as the yardage. :)

Did a similar thing whilst having a lesson. Was complaining of a high ball flight. Pro said get your 7 iron out and show me. Agreed it was high. Looked down to see I had PW in me hand.

I've hit the wrong wedge before, but the worst I did was wonder why I only just cleared a ditch off the tee of a par 4 then noticed I'd hit 7 iron instead of 4 :o

Surely if you think you are hitting a 9 iron but it is actually a 6 you would notice when the club was behind the ball the difference in loft.

And I'm not having a go at anybody.

I tried to tee off the 10th at my club in the weekend medal with Topoftheflop's driver.:o

Fortunately he spotted it in time. Was a bit of a cheek him leaving his driver resting up against my bag, whilst he got a sausage bap though.

Hit a great drive on 3rd in last week's medal.
Then playing partner stepped up to take her tee shot and said "This is the yellow tee!"

So another drive off the reds, and a 2 shot penalty.

The only good thing was that I managed to finish that ball in 4 for a par, so walked off with a score of 6 so only one dropped shot overall.

Pulled the 6 iron instead of the 9 before and wondered why I airmailed the green by fifty yards and never saw the ball again

I have done that and the other way round as well coming up well short. The thing I don't get is how the hell don't I notice when I am lining up the shot as the lofts are pretty different.
