Hi, I've been sneaking around for a while searching thru old threads on here whenever me and my playing partners have came across any rules issues during our rounds that we can't quite agree on. For some reason I've never got around to signing up and joining in on the forum until now

Anyway, wee bit about myself. Got back into golf about 4yrs ago after I finally hung up the football boots. Been an associate member at two different clubs in the past two years but have realised that associate membership is not for me and have decided to look for and join somewhere on full membership to allow me to play in as many medal/comps as I can this year (must be missing the competitive edge of Saturday afternoon football more than I thought) and hopefully make some downwards movement on my handicap (currently @ 8) .

Looking forward to the rain stopping and the season starting - Bring on the golf !!!
:swing:

Welcome! Where are you thinking of joining? Hit me up for a game some time.
Looking at Torrance in not so sunny east kilbride . I've found even tho I've had memberships elsewhere I was playing Torrance and Langlands most of the time as I work across the road from both of them and live about 1 mile away. Would defo be up for a game at some point, cheers.

Welcome along man.

I was exactly the same as you - got back into golf when I hung up the boots and still needed some competitive action. My only regret is that I kept playing fitba for as long as I did.
Thanks mate, that's exactly how I felt once I got back out on the course again, just wasn't enough of my buddies interested in golf when I was younger so it ended up taking a back seat to the football. Making up for it now tho, getting as many rounds in on as many courses as I can get away with

Torrance has the potential to be a great course and is well established. I know a few members. Bit wet though (as are most places just now) and temporary greens are common well into spring, I heard.

Played Langlands a few times but in honking conditions so have been unable to give it a thorough assessment.

Obviously, you have the opportunity to buy a rover ticket which will get you on to both of them, but you'll need to then pick which club you want to join.

I was a member at Playsport for a year and really loved my time there. It's a very short but very challenging 9 hole course- I imagine you've played it. Not got a clubhouse and active membership though so if you're looking for a social scene, it's maybe not the best place for you. A good place to rock up, change in the car park, hit 9 or 18 holes and head home. Lovely staff too. If they do a winter season ticket this year I'm going to go for it as unless it's really frosty they always allow you to hit from the fairways and greens are always on.

East Kilbride golf club and Nerston are another couple of options for you, or Strathaven if you want something a little further out.

I don't know if you've ever played Broadlees before (Chapleton). It's a lovely, testing 9 hole which has just this year registered with the authorities to offer handicaps and competitions to its members. They also have plans to extend the course to 18 holes. Will be a great place to play and the greenkeeper keeps the greens in very good condition. Nice coffee shop, practice hole and putting green.

You're spot on with all of that.

Played playsport a good few times now and it's a good wee course but it's the fact it's just the 9 holes that was putting me off. As you said tho, certainly more playable than the municipal courses are throughout the winter . Played Strathaven in an open comp last year and got rained off after 10holes but what I saw of it looked impressive.

If it's a choice between Langlands and Torrance then it would be Torrance every time. I don't mind Langlands and actually know a lot more members up there but Torrance is a much better layout and a much better test of the back tees too. Only problem is all this rain, I'm not sure if course will ever dry out . Might stick the waders on and take a walk up over the weekend to have a look around and see how it's holding up.

I noticed you said you used to be member up playsport where are you playing your golf this year?
