Was just looking at the gear video vault on the GM website and just above the footage of the new Nike wedge it said that next week you can see the test of the new Ping G10.
Has anyone seen it yet ? and do you think it is a bit early to launch another new driver as soon?
is this a tour version?

They are ripping the pi55 out of the loyal Ping users. The G10 has only been out about a year. I think we should start a petition telling Ping to stop ripping off the club golfer.

PS

I know we don't HAVE to buy it but what is most annoying is that it seriously devalues the trade in price of existing G10's.

It's market driven - If people keep buying, Ping'll keep bringing out new models - this is driven by customers as much as by Ping themselves. Ping are in it for the money, it is a business after all.
Folks just have to have the latest model don't they and Ping know it! It's psychological - golfers believe they'll hit it longer or straighter when they read the blurb or watch the ad when they most likely won't.

Personally I like it as it means I can get a top spec driver like a G5 for buttons.

It's the suckers who must have 'brand new shiny everything' that swell the Ping coffers.
If you were CEO of Ping with sales targets etc you'd be re-launching every year or 6 months too.

The G2 was such a success for Ping they're still riding that success. I don't remember the ISI drivers being particularly popular.

It is cut-throat but that's business, Ping clearly don't feel they're alienating customers and will doubtless continue on this road.

Gentlemen your talking about a business!! What other successful business's do you know that stand still?
Car company's bring out new models, clothing company's even Mcdonalds/burger king. You cant expect them not to compete.

Where is the link?

I cant see any new Ping driver in that section???

Ive got a set of Raptures which I bought and had CF'd. It was a lot of money to me. For that money I expect them to do me for a very long time with the occasional grip replacement and alignment check.

I have no problem with Ping bringing out new models provided that they are good quality and last well.

The second they reduce the quality and force a degree of 'inbuilt obsolescence' through inferior manufacturing is the time i'll stop supporting them.

I'm pretty sure however many models come out, there's only a really significant 'quantum' leap forward in technology every 3-5 years. The rest of it is just parcelling out the R&D costs through minor insignificant tweaks.

My Raptures are NOT a step forward from the G5/G2 format which WAS forward thinking in it's time. I'm under no illusions about this.

I think 5 years is a reasonable interlude to look for changes over. Any sooner and you're either a mug, wealthy beyond your intelligence, a newby or just a sucker for advertising.

Same with cars, bikes, televisions and other goods that fall into this bracket.

Ok lads, when you go to the main site and click on the newest one for the Nike wedge it says above it that next weeks will be the New Ping G10 driver, however after talking to my pro today he has not heard of a new Ping G10 and says that if they have got a new driver it wont be called the G10.

Here is a copy of what it says above the vid.

Wednesday 8th August 2007

This week, the Golf Monthly team take a first look at Nike's new black satin SV Tour wedge. The head shape has been created with plenty of input from Nike's Tour staff players with versatility one of it's key attributes.

Next week...see PING's new G10 driver

JezzE, can you spill the beans matey?

After watching the vijo AGAIN it is clear that this is in fact an old one from August last year and would tie in with the release of the G10. Panic over but Ping still release TOO MANY clubs in a year.

Ping are no worse than anyone else.

Callaway and TM are probably worse.
