Guys, when i started playing 5 months ago I decided just to get a driver off the shelf as I was new to the game I didn't see the point in getting custom fitted as my swing was going to change considerably over the coming months. Which it has.

So 5 months down the line I'm now driving consistently. Hitting 70% of fairways, average drive is about 240-250 yards.

I'm happy with my current driver but would be interested if there is more to be had by a better fit to my swing etc etc

So is it worth getting a custom fit session ? And has anyone ever gone to one and they've said your current driver is fine and no major major benefit in changing ?

Part of me says "If it ain't broke don't try and fix it." But the curious side of me says "There could be improvements to be had."

What do you guys think ?

I must be playing a different game :D Only about 5 players on the European tour average 70% of fairways.

Playing for 5 months, 70% of fairways and 240-250 average??? Do you give lessons?? ;)

With them stats Westy I'd say stick yo what you have, it sounds like it's working.

Where do you play in stevenage?

Dont change it, simple as !! 70% is mahooosive :-)

I shot 75 last weekend, and even then I only hit 61% of Fairways
, and GIR was only 44% !

My short game was sh*t hot tho ;-)

I was driving about 280 (According to SkyCaddie) when it went straight, but just wasn't consistently accurate, so I've slowed my swing down and over about the last month have been hitting about 60-70%.

Minty, I play either at Bragbury End, about 5 mins from where I live. Whitehills over in Dane End, or Chesefield Downs, which I'm just in the process of becoming a member of :)

Chris, Saturday I hit 71% of fairways but only 16% GIR. As a result carded a 92, which is equal to my best score to date, so was happy.

I think I may be spending too much time with the big stick on the range and not enough time with the little uns.

Gives me something to work on next.

I had one lesson over Christmass to sort out some basics, grip, stance etc, and was planning to book a batch of lessons at the new club. Maybe have one a month.

I think that will help sort my irons out as well.

Murph, my 3-wood goes about 200-220, but my irons I find I fly them really high, so I don't think I get 'good' distance. My 6-iron goes about 150.

I know people have commented on here that the G10's do have a very high trajectory.

A couple of the guys in a 3-ball I joined up with on Saturday made the same comment. I don't feel I'm getting good weight transfer with my irons and as a result hit the ball off my back foot, which launches it high.

It's something I've started to work on. But some lessons will surely help as well.

Another crown golf member, excellent! We have a few crown golf members on here so plenty of scope for forum meets!

Viscount, thanks for the offer. I'll take you up on that.

Next time I have a quiet Friday I'll drop you a PM and see if we can hook up for a round.

If you are hitting fairways fairly regularly I'd invest in a few lessons and focus on the short game which is where the scores are made. I'd wait until you get a nice repeatable action and look at C/F or try a few clubs out at demo days etc first

Holy cow.....5 months, 70%, 240-up?

RG falls over and needs adrenalin shot.......

What are you off? can I swap your driving for mine!?

RG I'm off 23 at the moment. It's only been over about the last month (4-5 rounds) I've been averaging this since I slowed down my swing, so it's entirely possible I'm just running hot right now. Before I slowed my swing down I was averaging about 40-45%.

Now my irons, that's a different story. My GIR is below 20%Hence the 23 hcp.

Putting isn't too bad averaging 1.8 puts per hole.

So I know where I need to put time into.
