I sometimes get that too (although not just now!).

If I quote a reply and have to delete a letter whilst I am typing the next thing I type goes above my text. I have to move the cursor to the end of my existing word, press return and type. At the end I then move the cursor to the new text and pull it back up, delete the space, to join it up with the original text. I guess there are quirks which affect different computers and browsers.

You should be able to solve this by hitting the INSERT key (just tested on my machine and it worked)
