Woke up with a stiff hip and lower back on Sundaybut thought it was merely a symptom of overdoing the gardening the previous afternoon. Went for round of golf and struggled for the first few holes. Eventually all seemed to loosen up and finished the round reasonably well. However, the pain got worse throughout the evening until the pain in my left leg became so unbearable I took a trip to A&E. The prognosis is not good. Trapped sciatic nerve caused by 2 prolapsed disks. The way I feel at the moment I can't see myself playing for the rest of the summer. Will have to stick to TW08 on the xbox 360.

OUCH!!! Sorry to hear about that mate, you have an awesome support team on here to get you through.

Alright mate,

chin up you will be back before then I'm currently doing voodo to ensure this is the case

I think it might have been the climb up to the 18th green that did it! :(

Gutted for you pal. Stick with it,at least now you know what the issue is you can make a start on resolving things.

I feel for you evita4. I also am struggling against a medical condition. Was out on Monday with senior colleagues at a different course. Wet underfoot, dense rough and too many ditches. Feeling very weak and getting my highest score in thirty years on one hole.
I don't know if I am fit for tomorrow's roll up.

Evita4 mate, i cant believe you didnt stop on the 9th with me! I also cant believe you made it up the hill with your back that much of a mess.

Apart from nearly crippling yourself i hope you enjoyed the round and we will have to do it again once your back is OK.

Bad luck pal, best of luck with the recovery. Did the hospital give you a time frame for your return?
Some people apparently recover within a couple of weeks, others may take upto 2 months. Worryingly, I was advised that a smaller percentage don't recover and then need surgery.

If it is any comfort, I have had this problem twice both resulted in trips to A & E. The worst one resulted in them giving me some injection in my lower back. mine eased enough to start light exercise in 2 weeks.

Very sympathetic in A & E (NOT!) had initial assessment, told to go and sit down "i can't". Well go and stand in waiting room " i can't". hang on a minute, they brough a wheeled bed type thing, plonked me on it face down and wheeled me back into the waiting room for about 45 mins. I felt a proper charlie laid there with my ar$e stuck up in the air.

Thanks a lot for your support and encouragement guys. My better half has removed my clubs now so that I don't get tempted to hit some practise swings in the garden.

Poor you :( hope the pain eases soon and is not too unbearable and take your time in coming back to the game as swinging your clubs to early may put you out for longer.
Take care and take advantage of any pampering thats offered. ;)

evita4 best wishes and what ever you do take heed of the advice given by medics and the physios.

I suggest that you visit a local sports physio who will give you exercises to perform before you take to the course which will help in keeping you on the course and active.
Naturally clear any physio visit with the medics.
