Another German attack.

Apparently it was a domestic - rather irresponsible to have been portraying this as a potential terrorist attack based purely on the ethnicity of the perpetrator - as that just raises the fear level. Media do have to act responsible and not sensationalise and fearmonger

I'm already here. Currently 50km off the German coast in the Baltic but travelling home later this week via Rostock and Hamburg train stations and Hamburg airport. I'm assuming that security will be so high that it will be fine for the next couple of weeks.

The problem is, with this kind of attack like they recently happened in Würzburg, Munich or now in Arnsbach, there is not much that police or other security personel can do in advance. There seems to be no organization or bigger plan behind it. From what we know to this point, the attacks were completely unrelated to each other, basically just individals losing it. Especially the Munich attack has much more simulartiy to a school shooting than to a terrorist atttack. It is almost impossible to spot something like that in advance or take measures to prevent it.

On the other hand: chances to die in a car crash are still way higher than those to be killed in a random attack. So I wouldn't worry too much.
 
With terrorist attacks and our fear of them - given that other than us all being aware and reporting suspicious goings-on - as the public do we just accept them as events that will happen - in the way that from time to time aircraft crash. To maintain our sanity and to avoid 'living in fear' perhaps we just need to accept terrorist attacks as part of early 21st century life. Trusting on the security services to do whatever they can to minimise the risk to us in the way that aircraft manufacturers and maintenance is designed to minimise the risk of crashing. We still fly.
