Castle Park golf club in East Lothian is closing this weekend. Slightly different circumstances than simply being financially non-viable but it does boil down to that in the end. Three clubs in the area lost now in the last couple of years and unlikely to be the last.

Sad to hear, used their wee driving range a few times when I lived near Gifford for 6 months. I must say the course always looked deserted though and it was out of the way. With so many good tracks in East Lothian maybe it wasn't really needed which seems backed up by no offers to buy except from farmers, but tough on the 350 members nonetheless.

Yes, finances aside. It's a horrible thought dragging a plough through a golf course!

Yes, very sad. I have played there loads of times, an enjoyable course with a quirky back 9.

The course is out of the way but it is in beautiful countryside.

Has there been a change in the Set Aside rules and payment formuilae ;-)

Looks like a lot of farmland turned into courses now going back to farmland ....

Set a side went years ago but yes farmland prices are on the up , around £8500/acre down here in rural Shropshire
